You could keep the LS, but you will most likely be changing it for a shorter geared transmission before long. Do yourself a favor and get a proper transmission at the same time.

You can keep the LS tranny if you want its up to you. The GSR tranny is better though in my opinion.

lol "VTEC" Transmission. You can pretty much use any B series Transmission If you have B series engine. I have an LS with GSR transmission and im lovin it! except on highways

With the LS tranny you will most likely drop out of VTEC all too often while having a GSR or "proper" tranny you will stay in VTEC and in VTEC is where you want to be.

Wouldn't a tranny from a B16A be the optimal choice here? (shorter gears than the GS-R but roughly the same price range as a GS-R S80 or Y80 unit) What was the trans code on the B16A again?

What do you mean by "drop you out of VTEC"? Like, if VTEC hits at 4800, and you shift a b16 tranny youll stay above 4800, while in the longer geared LS you could shift and end up below 4800 and thus have to work your way back up to VTEC again?

yeah that's what i tough, its just my neighbor told me that im going to have to put a B16 or B18C tranny on but i always knew that B series tranny fits B series motors. Well for right now im keeping my tranny for a lil while then later on imma get a B16 trans, you guys said it was shorter gears, I'm down

I THINK it has shorter gears; I was looking for someone to confirm this...

Well you know it kinda depends on what your goal is. Are you going turbo or all motor? The best thing you could do is to customize your tranny. My favorite setup is GSR trans with LS fifth gear.

yeah, if this is just a daily driver and you dont plan on going to the track, or you wont be doing any "real" racing, then theres nothing wrong with the ls. i had a b16 trans on my daily and personally i thought it was annoying, when it blew i switched to an ls because its much more practical... the gsr is the best blend of performance and practicality if youre not building a custom tranny.

That's what I mean with an LS tranny since it has longer gears you would have to wait a lot longer for VTEC to come back in everytime.

then why did you ask if your transmission had to be a VTEC trans? lmao

Best transmission combo I have ever driven was a GsR trans with a stock FD and an LS 5th. Great gas mileage and the get up and go when you need it. You will still fall out of IAB's with a GsR trans, but you will stay in VTEC (especially with your VTEC trans) lol.

yes i would have to agree ls 5th gear is wonderful on the highway my friend runs it in his boosted gsr...but i would look into the future of what your going for like track car, drag,or dd and decide what tranny is going to work for your needs
daily driver ls for highways and gas
drag i would look into type r lsd
track i would assume short gears

Track: B16 or 4.4/4.785 FD ITR trans
Street/ Spirited driving: GsR trans
DD: LS trans

ya i have a b16 tranny in mine and the gears are so short that when you get to like 75 or 80 on the highway it sits at about 4500 rpms i think and if your car is loud its annoying very annoying... but anyways i would suggest a GSR just everyone esle has but if your wanting some acceleration b16 is pretty good i love mine it pulls good with the b16 tranny depends on what your prefering though GSR is prolly the best selection to be honest with you. thats my recommendation

i wouldn't install a gsr motor without a b18c or b16 tranny. the tranny makes a difference in acceleration too, not just the motor.
