Default Speed Sensor

On a 1990 accord besides causing the Speedometer to stop working what else will a non working Speed Sensor cause your vehicle to do or not do properly.

If the gauge cluster is actually not functioning correctly, that will cause no speed to appear. The 94-97 accords are famous for this issue. Not sure about the 4th gen accords though. And if it is a faulty VSS, the CEL should come on telling you this. And a lot of systems do rely on the VSS, so I believe the car will go into limp-mode, but do nto quote me on that. Definitely will not run efficiently though, as the computer has no idea what speed the vehicle is moving.

Thanks i figured that. the code 17 came on like 3 weeks ago on the ecu which is speed sensor of course. Im not to worried about how fast im going because i just keep up with traffic but i just wanted to make sure it was not going to do any transmission damage until i purchase the new one. Or will it?

because no trans damage will happen really with a vss that is broken on a manual trans. automatic could. because the ecu and tcu are monitoring the vehicle speed, engine speed, engine load, ect. as to when to shift. where as on the manual, obviously, you decide.

Bad VSS will also cause cruise control and odometer not to work. If either of those work, VSS is ok and problem is elsewhere (I had a problem with corrosion on the printed circuit board in the cluster).
