What is acceptable oil consumption?
a quart every change is low, but it all depends on the health of the engine and how you drive it. in normal driving when you get to the point of burning a quart every 500 miles it's a warning that it won't be long before an exhaust valve fractures or you light up a ringland. beyond that how you drive it will make a MAJOR impact on how much you burn. if a guy went and did 50 track miles it wouldn't shock me to see the car down half a quart. if that happened on the street it would be a major problem....actually if it happened on the street the engine wouldn't live long. just incase anyone is wondering why oil burners fracture exhaust valves, it's a pretty simple answer. 1. oil reduces octane when it's in the mix, this leads to knocking and detonation. 2. and this is the big one, oil burners have a lot of soot in the exhaust, this soot coats the exhaust valve over time and prevents it from being able to cool. you more or less create a blanket on the valve. they can take it for awhile but eventually the heat cycles lead to a very brittle valve and a good bit of detonation is usually all it takes to blow a chunk out of one.

I was wandering that, wish I had my itr up and running so I see how much oil I can burn!
But to stay OT, I remember mine having gone through a quart or so every 3K miles. Only 1.75 (or so) after adding the SC. But I was a bit heavy footed at times then.
Pardon my dumb question, but is there anything particular about b18cr/5's that cause them to burn oil? Is higher compression the main culprit? How much do they burn relative to a b18c1 or b16a2?

Get it rebuilt correctly and you won't burn anything. I have 7 track days on my rebuild and haven't burned a drop
. My other one has 5k on it's rebuild and hasn't burned anything either.
My first ITR with 140k on it never burned a drop either, I thought it was a rumor until I purchased my next two prior to rebuilds.
So with that being said there doesn't have to be oil burn, acceptable amounts are subjective to how much you can stand to dump in on a routine basis.

I have driven 3,000 miles total since the oil change, I would say 10 miles of hard track racing, then the occasional wrapping out the tach on the street. I tried a few tank fillups to never go above 4000RPM but that didnt work, every time I would get to the point where I needed gas I would end up hitting VTEC. It just sounds to good to go 250 miles without hearing it lol. Anyways I would say I have burnt not even half a quart. Turned 20k miles so yeah its still a pretty fresh engine.
