Stripped fitting on brake hard line
I changed over my stock booster, master cylinder, and prop valve on my 98 civic hatch. I put on a 99-00 civic si unit to help handle my 5-lug swap. Everything was going great till the very end. When I was putting the brake lines back on the prop valve, one of the fittings was going on funny. I loosened it up and started again. It was still not feeling right. I then noticed that the fitting is stripped. Is there any way to remove the fitting and just buy a new one? Or do I have to replace the whole hardline? Its the one for the driver side rear. Any help would be great. Thanks..
I would try to re-tap the fitting first....how is the treads on the prop valve? i believe you can only get the fitting and hardlines as an assembly... if the treads on the fitting isnt too bad i would at least try to re-tap the treads on it make sure you know the tread pitch hope this helps
If that doesn't work, instead of buying a whole new hard lone, buy a flare kit, a length of the right sized hard line, a coupler and an extra fitting, cut back your stock line, slide on a fitting on, flare it, put the coupler on and then one end of the new line, cut to fit and re flare and screw into your prop valve. same thing happened to me when I was upgrading my rear brake lines to SS.
The proportioning valve has aluminum threads that are weaker than the steel fitting on the hardline. Replace the proportioning valve if the threads are bad. I wouldn't try to chase them or fix them because it could be bad if it started leaking from there while your driving. You can most likely put a new fitting on the line and flare it to save a couple bucks.
