Default EX headers on my DX engine

Hey Honda-tech! I have a 96 Honda civic hatch with a d16y7 engine. I just bought some DC 4-1 headers but i didnt realize it was for EX only (d16y8/vtec). I compared my new headers to my oem ones and it is shorter. I read that it is shorter because the y7 headers have the cat converter on it instead of it being a separate piece like the y8's.

If I just buy an EX catalytic converter, will i be able to connect it to my DX downpipe? Will it work? And if so, is it smog legal (even if the headers themselves are carb legal?). If this wont work, what is another way I could make it work? I need to know asap! Thanks everyone!

(E) The exempted new aftermarket catalytic converter is installed in the same location as the OEM catalytic converter it is designed to replace. The front face of the installed catalytic converter shall be no more than three inches further upstream or downstream in the exhaust from where the front face of the OEM catalytic converter was located. The installation may not alter the location, position, or orientation of oxygen sensors upstream and downstream of the catalytic converter(s);

this is the law for aftermarket in CA, not sure about getting an OEM cat though. You'll have to extend both O2 sensors though to reach.

It's header, because you only bought one and your car only uses one.

Also, something you're probably not aware of, is that a 4-1 header is going to kill your low end power.
