B-series tranny question.
I got a JDM ITR tranny that I installed ls5th gear few days ago, but at the end of installation I'm kind of confuse one thing that I cant recognize when I took them out.
I dont know how to explain it, so lets the picture say it self.
On the picture number 1, its a shim that sit at the end of the 5th gear synchro (pic no3),
What I wanted to know is, the dimple on that shim that I circled black, doest it really2 need to sit into the tranny housing grove on the picture no 2 that I circled red????
I cant recall about it when I took the tranny apart, not because I wasnt paying attention, but it just feel right off when I took the housing off.
Please respond only if you know it is needed to be sit in it or not.
Please let me know.
Thanks and appreciate it alot.

Yes. This keeps the reverse cone in position so the synchro can bite on it.
In case you haven't already, remove the top mainshaft bearing from the case (heat, don't pull it) and install on the mainshaft before installing the case.

If I didn't put that dimple on the groove, will I be able to install the case properly? Because after I installed everything back on and as usual I have to flip the tranny upside down so the mainshaft can sit into the bearing and i'm able to put the c-clip back on, its all good and the c-clip is on as well, but I wasnt sure if that dimple sit right into the groove.
Any way to make sure of it without taking out the case?
If I take out the mainshaft bearing from the case, and install it on the mainshaft it self, the whole thing will still turn even if I touch it for a bit, Any other way to make sure that dimple is on the groove?
Thanks for the info, I really appreciate it a lot.

Yes, it needs to be in the slot. The snap ring is on the countershaft. Install the top mainshaft bearing, align the tab, and install the case.
Easiest way to align it is to sit it at 12 o'clock really. Just see what bolt holes the tab's opening in the case lines up with, and position the tab (pointed down to the gear set) to that same location.
If it's not lined up, it's not going to seal up nicely, and I'm sure the case will put pressure on the tabbed washer. Though, I've never had an issue with that washer, so I have no idea. Just set it so it's right. lol

COOL, Thanks a lot guys, now my other question is, is there any other way to make sure the dimple is line up with the slot without taking out the case?
I got my case on already, and getting no problem putting the case back on.
Any way?

It won't drop entirely down on its own without it in the right location - you can see the little machined lip it would rest on in that pic of yours. And it WON'T go down much at all if the tab is flipped up - which you have it clearly positioned down so you're good. If your case seals up with no problem at all, chances are good that you did everything right.

Thats what I'm worry about.
Any way to check it without taking out the case?
Thanks though.
