main & *o*ntershaft bearings: p*ller req'd?
Tomorrow I will be removing the 5th gears from the junk yard out of a DC2 LS integra, to be put in my hydro b16 transmission (H2B setup). Will I need a bearing puller? I do not have one, and do not want to have to buy a whole trans when I need only the 2 5th gears. In the pic, its the 2 bearings on the countershaft below the nut, and one at the top of the mainshaft.

Only for the countershaft bearings; use a puller 2 jaw puller and the appropriate-sized bearing splitter. The splined countershaft 5th gear should come out by hand after pulling the beaings.
You'll need to remove the reverse and forward gear change holders to get the 5-R shift fork out to remove 5th gear.

another question... what is the best way to remove the nut on the countershaft? The gears all turn when the nut is turned so its tricky. I suppose my question is: What is the best way to lock the countershaft without causing any damage?
