Intermittent hesitation Please Help Me
Ok, so I finally got the 4,000 RPM "miss" sorted out, with a new exhaust system. But now a new problem has arisen. The car will periodically hesitate for a couple seconds while accelerating. It does not do this all the time and up until last week had not done it since May, and only then did it once or twice, so I though, well, maybe it was something I did while shifting.
Here is what it does, occasionally, when I get on the gas, it will briefly hesitate, maybe for like a second or two. There is no other odd behavior such as the tach or speedometer needle jumping around. Just a brief hesitation.
In the last 6 months, I have replaced or done the following:
1. Tune up including new plugs, wires, cap and rotor
2. Sea Foamed the intake( through the brake booster hose) and fuel system.
3. Replaced fuel filter
4. I changed the oil in September( I used Royal Purple and a K&N filter)
5. I cleaned the air filter element( wash and re-oiled)
6. Cleaned TB out with carb cleaner
7. New exhaust including new catalytic converter and O2 sensor
The specs on the car are as follows
Chipped P28 ECU
Base Tune
Stock B16B Type-R( including transmission)
CAI
2.5 inch exhaust with no resonator
I run 93 Octane fuel from Shell if that makes any difference

had to read you spec carefully but i noticed you have a chipped ECU.
this may help i'll just list my mods so you get an idea whats going on.

Feels stage 2 cams, Feels valve springs and retainers, Feels header - centre pipe - backbox, Feels intake, Feels ECU.
Ok basically i get what you are talking about the hesitant throttle is this when you get hard on the throttle or is it when you ease on it like in town driving,
cause mine only hesitates on easy throttle..
alot more noticable when i go for a hard drive then cruise through town.
Diagnosis - I spoke to feel's and they stated The ecu was tuned by them for the setup i have and they stated that because its a sport/race ECU it is the throttle map.
the ecu knows when i am running hard and they stated that if i then go to drive it calmly it still thinks i want race throttle response. basica;;y it hesitates then kangaroo's like judders a bit, but if i floor it there is no problems at all.
sum up, its the ecu trying to give me race throttle map when i am driving carfully.
way i get round it is driving in a low gear with high rpm. say 2nd gear at 30mph.....
It is not a problem. Try a different map on your ecu.
if this is completely not what you are experiencing
sorry to baffle you with a load of ****.
hope you get it sorted.

Hi there, first post on Honda-Tech.
I am having a similar issue with a 1993 prelude I just bought. I have random hesitations around 3000 RPM, usually when at light throttle (25% ish).
It wont do it for a week or so then it will just randomly do it. Doesn't matter if the car is cold or hot.
The car will buck back and forth until I floor it and then it gets past the 3000 RPM range and smooths out.
The random part is what is confusing the most. Why would it only do it some of the time?
I did also have a similar issue with a Nissan Sentra like 10 years ago and the shop replaced the MAF sensor and it fixed it.
I'll let you know if I get mine fixed.
