Default Lost Vss signal. broken trans?

I was just driving to work, and then my speedo cut out on me..I looked over the repair manual, and did the test for the vss sensor, it passes, but then when I was turning the wheels on the car, with the sensor removed, I noticed the vss shaft was not moving. So I pulled the shaft to inspect the gear, on the sensor side it was fine, but inside the trans I could move the gear by finger!!

Anyone ever encounter this issue? I would love it if there was a quick fix, but I cant seem to find anyone that has the same problem.

Thanks

Did your VSS gradually go out or did it suddenly quit on you? I am having major VSS problems right now as well, did it throw a code 17?

No code, and was just all the sudden, I know what happened with mine, its the gear inside the transmission is broken, the one that spins vss.

Damn, sounds like you broke the VSS gear on the diff, how strange...I can't remember if they're pressed on or not so it may have just come loose. But it sounds like the transmission needs to be split.
