Default Cleaned out my rear sunroof drain tubes

well after thoroughly cleaning out my trunk, i verified at least one source of a water leak. i happened to take off my headliner today for other reasons and saw this...

did a quick blow test and yup, clogged. no surprise really, its typical, especially after 22 years (probably clogged 15 years ago).

[CRAP, i just realized after typing this i did NOT have to take the bumper off to clean! ugh, skip this if you want...]
i figured i'd attack the rears first after seeing this. you first need to take the bumper off. removal is simple, two screws on edge of the fender on each side, then two nuts at the bottom of the hatch (you need to remove the rear plastic in order to see them), and two nuts right underneath those. you might still have to take off a plastic cover right over the exhaust tips in order to get to one of them. and that cover needs to be removed COMPLETELY. there are two plastic split screw thingys and theyre annoying to get to. the bumper wont come off (easily) without taking these off first. with the bumper off, you should see the outlet of the rear hose nipple.

however, what you really need to get at is the end of the hose INSIDE the hatch. you CAN access the hose by taking off the curved tail lamp cover piece and grab the hose and yank it out of its holder thingy.

you will see another nipple at the end of the hose, which is probably very clogged. i recommend taking that off and then cleaning it out and the hose. CAREFUL, if theres water in the hose, it will drain out and dirty, nasty water will drop out. keep a rag or a cup to catch the nasty stuff.

it helps to pull the corner interior piece back in order to access the hose and then place it back into the tube. insert a clean hose in there.

when your done you can do a quick check and be happy when you see water cleanly pouring out.

now put the bumper back on [or not! ]

Awesome post Tyson I'm definitely doing this with my Si, the water leak is horrible and makes the car smell funny when the carpet is wet

So are you saying that you stumbled across this on accident? Water in your car, stinks and fogs up but you were modding/fixing something unrelated. And you say the hose that hooks to the roof then runs down. Amazing tech info, thanks so much for letting us know your thought process along the way. Sounds kind of complex so I many just weld mine shut to save the long term pain staking hose clearing.

I thought I had leakage like detailed in this thread...until i took it all apart and found that my tubes were good and water tight, but the caulking that seals teh seams between the roof and the area around the hatch had dried up, cracked and i had bad leaks going through on both side.
