Default Eliminating Sunroof

Does anyone have any experience with eliminating sunroofs? I.E. skin replacement on the roof? Does it leak. I appreciate the help but I am just unsure as if it will work properly?

Pretty involved task. Why do you want to eliminate it? If you pull the weather stripping on the roof off, you will see seam welds. You have to drill those out and remove your windshield.

My guess is OP's sunroof either doesn't work anymore, is broken (glass), and/or for weight reduction, or some combination of those. The sunroof is a pretty heavy component at the very top of the car, which is the worst place for weight to be if you're concerned about curb weight for track reasons.

Anybody know the weight of the sunroof + metal roof skin?

Would like to figure how much weight saving is there from switching to cf.

I would just get the carbon fiber plug as stated earlier. I guess you could weld in a metal plug, but the CF one looks pretty easy, and I like the CF look.

I have been looking into this aswell. I think I have decided on the CF plug or just riveting a piece of sheet metal in to fill the hole. The roof skin just looks more involved/expensive than I would like it to be.

the sunroof weights 35lbs, and lighterfaster.com makes the delete that Modified used in their DC2 project.

you'll prob need a non-suroof healiner to go with this the delete, so that the bare metal and cf dosen't show in the inside.

the delete requires the whole set up to be removed, including the sunroof slider.

uh no. That's the whole point of the CF "plug" or insert - to be able to remove the sunroof assembly WITHOUT having to do a bunch of bodywork.

But yeah it would look like complete butt-hole without the non-sunroof headliner, seeing as how the exterior glass piece/hole is larger than the hole in the sunroof headliner.

And yes normally it's for weight reduction, but some ricers will do it for looks, too.

It is for weight reduction. Thanks for the options and feedback.
