Feedback on recommended service for Honda Pilot, please?
Am hoping some Honda techies can give me some feedback on necessary service for our 2004 Honda Pilot.
Major service (vehicle at approx 77,100 miles) includes: oil change, tire rotation, brake inspection & service, transmission and engine fluids, 4 wheel alignment for $495. Sound right? How often is this major service required? Also, it was recommended that the tires be balanced (think was $60) and cabin/pollen filter replaced ($124). Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

I would think the alignment is somewhat "high" cost wise, but if you are taking it to the dealership, you usually get...well you know.Concerning normal maintenance,I suggest a tranny service, and of course oil changes with filter every 4-5000 miles or so.
Back to the alignment....if you have any signs of uneven wear on the tires, its a good thing to look into.Tire rotation and balance will keep wear to a minimum, and prolong the life of them.
I personally do all my normal maintenance myself so I dont have to pay the rediculos prices at the dealerships, but I also have a 3 car garage, and tools out the wazoo....
I think the Honda quote to replace the timing belt, water pump, and belt tensioner was in excess of 800.00...I did it myself for less that 200.00.(on the CR-V)
Pilots are different, but the basic rules still apply.
Typically a good reputable shop can perform maintenance services less expensively than Dealerships.Find one you can trust, and cover these issues with them.

DIY is definitely cheaper, but not everyone is a tech, so find a good shop that will tell you what needs done now and what could be done a little later

What is your warranty like? If you have the extended warranty, I would bite the bullet, and get it done there. They'd probably void your warranty if you do not have proof of required maintence, and say there is a recall. If you do the maintence, take it to a reputable shop with ASE certifed TECHs, and keep a log, reciept, or pretty much a record of your maintence. On the plus side, it will help you sell your car in the event you do so.
