worth buying this crx?
i found a crx fore sale and i want to know if you guys would buy it.
first off, i am planning on buying a crx/civic hatch and putting turbo in it, keeping it for a month, then selling it to make a little cash. do you guys think the following crx is worth buying:
1990 crx dx
171,000 miles
17x7 inch rims
eibach springs
new plugs and wires
front and rear strut bars
cat-back
a little rust on rear 1/4 pannel
the usual bumps and bruises
back bumper is held on by screws
1 flat tire
when turning left, the tire rubs the fender (IS THIS BECAUSE OF THE SUSPENSION AND RIMS, OR ANOTHER PROBLEM?)
may need a new rear axle (not sure...what does it sound like when u need one?)
could be turned on by any key
very squeeky suspension and rattles on bumps
there may be an exhaust leak
needs an alignment really badly
crack in taillights
no radio or speakers
how much would you pay for this car?
and how much would it cost for 1 new tire, an alignment, rolling the fenders, and a new axle?
also, it kinda sounds fishy because he doesn't have the title yet and he sold it on ebay, but the buyer "didn't contact him."
thanks for your opinions
btw, the owner is moving to japan and needs to sell soon. he is asking $1,100

I would buy it for 1,000or maybe less. Since he's moving he might go down some. If you buy it though you could sell the wheels and suspension and have more then what you paid, then sell the body for like 500 bucks. that's my .02 cents
WTF!!!

haha just go steal it....j/p i would pay 1,000 for it because you could sell the parts on it for more then that and just part it out and sell the body later on....but yes he is moving say heres 900$ thats all i have take it or leave it...HE'LL TAKE IT
$1100 seems like a reasonable price, of course you can always talk him down. I dunno about the idea of making money off a crx, seems like if you turboed it and tried to sell it you'd be lucky to be breaking even. I'd just do what gsrhatch suggested and maybe part it out then sell the car stock.
i already have all the parts for turbo except dp and it was only 740 so far. im not trying to make a bunch of money on it, just wanna get the experiance of putting in turbo...
any other opinions?

and what are the symptoms of a bad rear axle?

man i think you got a wicked deal. from the looks of it, you can make a lot of cash from it and then when you find another one for almost the same price, buy that then use the rest of the cash on whatever you wanna spend it on...but wisely...
oh yeah i don't think hondas come with rear axles

rolling the fender? you can do that yourself. http://www.quickhonda.net has step by step on how to roll your own fender. It's in the "The Garage" Section. lots of good CRX stuff there. Overall, it sounds good for a CRX. of course i got mine for $500 off of Ebay with some decent body damage. Anyone at the Kang mountain pass run in NH will see.
the fender hitting is becuase of the rims, i'm pretty sure. as for the noise, it's like a wheel cylinder or something, whatever it's called. I looked into an 87 Si that had a bad left rear one.
hope that helps.

If you aren't sure on how much a tire would cost, or are even concerned with the cost of a tire, maybe you should reconsider what you are doing. Rolling the fenders is a great idea, but rolling the quarters on a CRX will be a big
. You're saying that there is a little visable rust on the quarters, which means that there is way more rust behind what you can't see, in turn, you will destroy the quarters by trying to roll them. Different springs or smaller wheels (16") would be a better idea, though I have a 2.5"drop on my Rex and 17" wheels and rubbing is not an issue. $1100 is a great price for that car and it looks like it has a lot of potential, but trust me when I tell you, you'd loose less money investing in the stock market than you would investing in a car. No one ever hooks up a car and makes $$$ on it when they sell it.

Again, i am not looking to make a lot of money off of this, i am simply trying to get the experiance of it and getting maybe a couple hundred on the side. im not trying to make a living off of this.
I am not sure how much a tire would cost because i never bought a low-prifile tire before. I only needed 2 of them in my life and i didn't pay for them. what does that have to do with my mechanical skill or know-how? i am quite capable of doing this. how would being concerned with the cost of a tire have any impact on my decision to follow through with my plan. Everyone wants so save money here or there.
thanks for warning me about rolling the fenders though. i guess if i get this car, i will get 16s, or maybe 15s, or even stock rims, and keep the differance.

Hey where did you find this car? I am located in Bronx, Ny and if you ain't gonna buy the car then hook me up with the seller so I can buy it tomorrow. For real though, if you are debating still or have too many concerns then lemme get the info b4 someone else buys it. I can buy it for my girl. ONE!
i made the guy an offer of 1100 if he fixes the alignment and gets a new tire. im waiting for his reply. if it is a no, ill give you the info. also, you wouldn't be able to get it tomorrow because he doesn't have the title yet. ill keep you posted.
i know... thats the main reason i thought this deal was a little shady. but he did just get the car 3 weeks ago, and that may be a good reason for no title "yet"
