Default 90 Hatch...Starts quick then Dies. Need opinions

Hey guys...was cruising last night at about 2k rpms in 5th. I could feel the car lose power in the pedal and it shut off on me. It will fire right up now and as soon as it starts, it will die before it even has a chance to hold an idle. I tried giving it gas to keep the rpms up but it just popped out the exhaust and died. I figure, ok it's got to be fuel. Well the filter is new, the relay is working (clicking on and off) properly, and I can hear the fuel pump humming when I turn the ignition to the III position. Just wanted to know if maybe although the pump is priming, its still possibly dead and can't hold/feed the engine enough pressure when running. BTW it's a stock 90 hatch with DPFI. Any opinions welcome.

Hmm...I'll check on that tomorrow then. Much cheaper/easier than doing a fuel pump. Any more suggestions welcomed. Thanks guys

You may have an ignition switch problem. The same thing happened to my 91 STD Hatch 2 years ago. The car would start then die as soon as it started. I replaced the electrical part of the ignition, Part# 35130-SH5-505.

Check the ignition coil. You might not be getting enough spark.and if that dose not work check the injectors.they could be dirty or bad. My buddy had both these problems at the same time and it took forever to figure out.

well the rotor is nice and tight...hmm, could be the coil or the ignition switch. I'll check on those. Just trying to do all I can before I spend $130 on a pump and drop the tank

Well I checked and the car is getting spark...therefore I know the ignition is working as it should. I have the tank dropped now changing the pump. I'll see what happens...

changing the pump is alot of work. shoulda checked fuel pressure while cranking the car over first before digging into that

It wasn't too bad...Took me maybe 2.5 hours, and the pump in it was original with 360k miles. Now my car has a new pump, but still no fire. Replaced the cap n rotor as well. I'm kinda stumped on this one. I guess all that's left is injectors... I think I might just pull the engine and start over lol
