Post New Member looking to do a light/moderate build on a 2000 CR-V

Hi, My name is Jeremy. I've had a CR-V for about 8 months now. I bought it from my dad for dirt cheap bc my sister blew the motor and i put in a used motor and trans with 115k on it. The chassis has 222k on it with no rust. I decided to start modding it bc I dont have enough money to buy another project drift car right now and bc its just too plain being that it is one of 12 red CR-Vs in my area.

Alright, so what I'm looking to do it is:
-Drop it a decent amount - I'm looking at GR-2s and G&R Springs but want to go a little lower than a 1.5" drop
-Intake and Manifold - probably gonna fab a short ram myself and do a Skunk2 Intake manifold
-Header - looking at DC Sports or an OBX Racing one
-Exhaust - I dont know what exhausts are available or worth getting for a CR-V
-VTEC Head - My non vtec head has alot of valvetrain noise so I want to replace it with a VTEC one. So far I know I will need an ECU, Head, and Wiring harness for it
-Rims - I picked up some 07 Civic Si rims and have them on right now
-EDM front bumper is being shipped right now, should be in by next week

Any advice or help on my build would be much appreciated, Thanks in advance

And now for the pics:
The only before pics i have is from the day i got in a fender bender

The night I picked it up from the body shop, missing "H" badge

Currently running Si 17s & 1/4" spacers with blown struts, lol

Let Me know what you guys think

It's your car and you should do whatever you want really..... Swapping to a completely different head just to get rid of noise might not be the best idea.

I'm not just going to replace the head bc of the noise, it just kinda gives me a reason to replace the head and in doing so I'll swap it to VTEC

ots a hell of alot more than a head and ecu and intake to do a b20v. you should seach for ls/vtec build thread. there is one on here that tell you everything you will need to do a reliable b20v build. good luck.

I kinda started to read that thread and i do know there is gonna be quite a bit of work involved, but im not really planning to rebuild the block bc the block is strong and has relatively low miles, just looking to buy a vtec head and rebuild that.

alright, well thanks for the pics to give me a reference for how high that still is. Do you know of any suspension setups that drop it a bit more than that and will not take too much fabrication or modification.
p.s. i'm not looking to do coilovers either bc it is my DD

Kinda in the same boat here:

Just picked up a 01' White CRV with 236K miles at a good price. I'm planning on rebuilding the motor, do some suspension work w/ wheels. Some comments/questions:

There's a great LS-V "how-to" thread on B20vtec.com Solid write-up w/ recommendations on how to best go about.

Really like the Si wheels on the 1st Gen CR-V's but did note that spacers are needed.
What size tires are you running?

Looking to drop my V with Tokico blues & HR springs too.

As far a rebuilding the motor goes, I'm really stuck on whether I should rebuild it as stock or go for a mild build. Afterall, it's just my daily and I really don't know how much more performance I'll gain w/ going LS-V, I/H/E and chipped ECU.

Going LS-V is going to cost more than you might think. Off the top of my head:

Complete Vtec head will likely cost you around $500
Plus the rebuild cost, tune up cost (valve seals, gaskets, cleaning, cap, rotor, plugs, wires, Hondata intake gasket etc.)

Timing belt, water pump, oil pump, ARP head and rod bolts (probably around $300 total)

LS-V conversion kit ($100 to $150)

You'll want headers (OBX seems to be about the only option at $200 plus shipping on ebay)

CAI or intake can vary from $30 to $120 (AEM CAI on ebay for $120).

OBD2 to OBD1 conversion harness $100

OBD1 Vtec ecu (probably GSR around $100)

Chipping/tuning etc. which will vary depending on how well you want your car tuned etc.

Seeing your thread makes me look forward to start on this new project. Might just do the suspension, wheels and rebuild of stock motor, but we'll see....

GL with your project and keep us posted on the progress.

I've got 1/4 inch spacers on the car right now, all the way around. The Spacers really give the car a nice flush look. I'm currently running 215/45R17s which dropped the car about an inch but my speedo is off 12.5% which means so is my gas mileage. I'm thinking about going either 225/50R17 or 215/50R17 in the spring so i can get a little bit more accurate speedo and better gas mileage

As for parts, I'm just gonna be surfing craigslist all winter for good cheap parts and hope for some killer deals on parts.

simplest/easiest way to mod our Vs suspension...
ive reccomended this a lot of times so far i havent seen or heard of
any issues.....
egay accord coilovers(94-97) match it up w/ any gas type shocks/
struts...KYB works for me all the time! then just dont go more than
halfway of the coilover sleeves coz later youll bottom out and your
upper control arm will get stuck under the wheel well....
**if you have spare $$$ try using an extended top hats for further
play f the struts/shocks.. or you could DIY your oem ones....

HTH..
good luck!

How's the ride on this set-up?
How much of a drop is halfway?

Really can't stand a bouncy car but then again, don't mind saving a few bucks.

Thx.

ok so I've got my EDM bumper on the way with the fog light garnish pieces but I am planning on putting in fog lights. I was wondering if anyone knew of any fog lights that would make a good fit or any OEM ones.

Also I cant find an OEM fog light switch anywhere, and by anywhere I mean I've been searching the internet for about an hour and came up with nothing. Does anyone have one for sale or know where I can buy one, even a part number would help

ive been using the ek 99-00 fogs on bumper, it fits well although theres a small
gap on the sides w/c you wont notice once its already installed, just modify the
brackets that came w/ it or you could make one! its really easy...

as for the fogs, its already discontinued, you either could use integra DA switches
and you could install them on the spare sockets underneath the steering wheel column
or ek switches that youll need to cut some parts so itll go through the oem fog holes...
or, like what i did, i used the cruise control botton!! lol... it looks like the oem one and
fits perfectly to the spare socket.. all you need to do is trace the pin outs and modify
the wiring harness...

good luck!

+2 on the EK fog lights.
Both me and my brother's CRVs have them. Like stated. They're not 100%, but no one knows or can tell, unless you tell them. Meaning they fit well enough to look factory.

So monday night started off nice with a midnight snow drifting session with me in my CR-V and a few subaru guys around the area until a local cop stopped us. The really bad news happened early tuesday morning when I went to start my car for work.
A Snow Plow came thru early in the morning and it kicked up a rock that shattered my rear quarter window.

Yikes! Well better that than a break-in. Someone smashed that small window on the back door and let themselves in to steal $3 in change that I had in my ash tray!
