2008 Honda Civic Coupe EX
Hi all,
First time poster, avid Honda aficionado. I just have some general questions regarding some statements that were made by a Honda Repair Shop Manager upon receipt of my Honda Civic following a driver side door collision whereby my car door had to be fixed as well as the entire driver side body and the rear-bumper.
1 - Rubber strip (presuming it's the weather strip) - Both strips (on door and car body) keep detaching. When I mentioned this to the Honda Repair Shop, I was told that 'Even new cars have that problem'. I was quite astonished by this statement, because, Honda to me, represents A1 quality cars. He proceeded to fix the problem by adhering the rubber strips with a white adhesive which leaked out from the strips onto the actual door. Is this standard practice?
2 - Plastic strip on roof: My vehicle comes with a plastic strip that runs parallel to each side of the car (from front to back). The driver side strip has come loose towards the end. The Honda Dealer Repair shop went ahead, (after I mentioned this), and glued with a white adhesive that end into place. When I picked up my car, the strip was detached again. The Manager at the Shop placed duct tape at the loose end and said that would take care of it. It has since detached again and the duct tape left a mess on the paint. Is this standard practice?
3 - Door trip paint: The inside body door trim is unpolished and the paint looks dull. I compared it to the passenger side door and it just looks unfinished. I brought this to the attention of the Shop, and they answered that Honda never fully paints the indoor body door trim of its cars. I was a tad confused by this.
4 - Air bag light: When I picked up my car after it had been repaired, the Air Bag light was on. I brought it back and they fixed it. I could not get a word as to what had happened, and to be honest, I am not sure if in fact the airbag works (it did not pop, nor did the side airbag deploy when the car was hit). How does one go about checking this?
In all, I'm just confused by the quality of service that I got from an authorized Honda Dealer Repair Shop. I just need advise as to how to get my car not to 'fall apart' over time and how to make sure the airbag's are indeed functional.
Thanks!

1) Post some accident pictures
2) Post some of the issues you're having
Off the bat, the weather stripping around the car should not be falling down, and certainly should not be adhered using a glue like that. It probably uses similar to the 3M double sided trim tape. I personally would just order it and replace it and the clips associated with it, here is the stripping for the door:

Here is the rubber molding for the car itself:

I am looking for the roof molding.
The paint on the inside of the door should not be dull, it should be clearcoated and look the same as the exterior.
Air bag light concerns me - I would ask what caused it and how it was fixed.

I think you should call your insurance company first and complain about the sloppy repair, if that gets no action hire a lawyer, or if you have a friend who has some legal knowledge have him or her call the dealer in question and get the car repaired correctly, ask them if they want to correctly repair it now or just give you a brand new car when you get finished with them.
None of what you mentioned is right and should not be tolerated by anyone.
