Default wood grain steering wheel stain

is it possible to stain a wood grain steering wheel to make it darker ? i want to try but dont want to ruin a nice wheel so some one ever try this before?

Yeah of course it is. Not sure which wheel you are referring to, I have a Nardi Classic so i will base it off that. You need to remove the clear coat/lacquer from the wood. I would do this by hand and it will probably take a long time. Get some fine grit sand paper to smooth the wood out, the stain away. Use a "foam" brush to apply the stain so you get an even coat. For a nice finish, you can use Tung Oil or get a nice clear lacquer. I have used Minwax stains and Tung Oil to finish a few bass guitars and they came out great. I'm pretty sure the same would apply here.
