I got a gsr tranny i am replacing syncros in. I was thinking i would put new bearings and seals in it also. I have put lsds in ls and b16 tranny with no problems. But how do check the clearance on the tapered bearing so i know what shim to use. I keep reading about preload and stuff but im a little confused.

 

Buy the OEM tool or make your own and set the preload. Tapered bearings don't use a clearance.

Lets you turn the diff using a torque wrench with the case bolted together to measure the preload.
