I was thinking of making a 4" aluminum exhaust for my ek hatch. Just wondering what grade aluminum tube people are using?What thickness? 14 or 16 guage? Thanks,

talk to wier tech he has good aluminum material for exhaust or can direct you to the supplier he uses.

 

11 or 16 gage i would assume.

I used 16g for all the straight sections and 11g for all the bends and I did it that way for a reason...antilag is harsh on bends. Www.globatecheng.com

 

When he said grade, I belive that he asked for the type.

I use 6061 series aluminum for my aluminum exhausts.

best bet or not its what your going to find short of having a custom run of parts made it is the most commonly used alloy although the heat treat varies depending on the manufacturer.

 

The heat treatment is null and void as the welded area will be the weakest by far.
Thats why I don't waste money on the good stuff just to ruin it with welding. This is why it is so important to weld it hot and fast, so you have the smallest HAZ possible.
