Transmission probloms.
First off i think my throwout bearing is going out. There is a rattling noise coming from the transmission area and when i pushed in the clutch it goes away. So i'm driving the other day and when i went to shift into 3rd gear it would not go in so i pull over and as im trying to get it into gear i hear the rattling noise even louder. finnally it went into gear and it was running fine then i go to take off later and it wouldnt get into any gear and the noise came back. Could my transmission be going out or what. My car is a 2001 type r and it has 57,000 miles (alot i know)
any info would be appreciated.

can it go into gear when the engine is turned off?
Synchro problems are usually manifested by you not being able to put the car in gear while it is moving or the gear pops out of it's gate while driving. Been there, done that. Synchros are wicked expensive to replace (in parts, not to mention the labor) since some synchros are part of a gear and not separate. If you can put it in gear with the car off but cannot put it in gear while moving then it's not a clutch problem but a tranny problem.
Using a good MTF helps in the newer tegs but if you've shredded a synchro or melted it then it's replacement time (at least $500).
there's a lot confusion as to why motor oil works in the 2nd gen tegs while the newer tegs prefer MTF...I won't get into it here.
