Default New PB on the stock K

Took the car out for what may have been its last time to the track this year. Ran a new PB on 22" slicks that are too small. This engine is stock, as in, it does not even have an RBC.

Breakdown of the slip:
1.73 60'

5.115 330'

7.957 1/8th mile ET
87.280 1/8th mile mph

I was happy with it considering I had to shift into 4th gear in the 1/8th. I do not see it going much fast than that with 22" slicks.

Details of the car:
92 Dx hatch
full interior (only weight reduction is no rear bumper support and no deadening)
stock K20A2 with no RBC
Quaife LSD
Lightweight Flywheel
I forget which clutch I even have in there
Kiddracing header
2.5" exhaust
Chris Treblic tuned

Wow I am impressed. Quickest I got my rsx with bolt ons and a tune in the 1/8th was 8.9. 7.9 is really moving. How much does the car weight?

thanks man, I was really surprised that it did it considering I had to shift into 4th gear on the little 22" slicks. I was there with some friends that run Mustangs. They were surprised too............

Not really sure what the car weighs, but it can not be too light. I have had this car for 6 years or so and the only thing that I have ever taken off or out of the car is the sound deadening, the rear bumper support, and I gutted out the random A/C stuff that they put into a Dx that did not come with A/C. I did put a Momo Rookie race seat in on the drivers side, but it does not seem to be any lighter than a stock seat. It also has a cf hood, but it seems like the K series engine and tranny is alot heavier and probably added all the weight back into the car. I guess with my in the car and I weigh 175 lbs, the car should weigh around 2200 or more.

Chris Treblic tuned it on Joe Simpson's dyno over there at Tempest. If I told you what it was making you may tell me I am lying. Joe or Chris has the dyno graph, I never got one. I do not pay a lot of attention to dyno #'s unless they are really low. Chris told me the exhaust was killing my power and the fact that I did not have an RBC. He told me with a nice 3" exhaust and an RBC, he would not be surprised if I didnt pick up 10whp or more.

Exactly my suggestions. Those KRRH are nice for a 3" as well from what I've seen. (former RSX owner).

I think I have the KiddRacing Ver.2 header. Its the 4-2-1 Skunk 2 copy, I think. KiddRacing advertised it made more power than their old design. I have no clue, I got it for a good deal from him and went with it. I am sure with a high dollar header I would make more power, but it wasnt worth it to me to spend $1,000 on a header right now.

If I take it to a 1/4 mile track, I am going to lighten it up a little more, drop the exhaust, and run the intake out of the headlight with the velocity stack.

here is a little video of a pass a friend made on his Mustang last night. Still sorting out his setup and it randomly wanted to hook up, it scared him a little.

If I can I will post up my first go-pro video that I got from my best pass last night. Its nothing too serious though.

My dad and I had planned on taking my car down to an event at Rockingham on the 31st of the month. I do not think I am going to go now. I do not have any slicks bigger than 22" is the main problem and I do not feel like trying to buy some before then. That would probably be the only place I could find Revn9k.

It would be fun to embarass him with a stock K20........after last night it gives me hope that it may actually run an 11.99. I was surprised I cut a 1.73 60' with full interior and all.

I will be up at the WCFs, I will stop by and saw whats up again.

Far as I know thats probably a good place to track him down. The video I saw of his car was from Rockingham.

I'm saying, a full built H2B vs another full built H2B on paper sounds like a legit race. Come on down south and track him down. Make him prove how well his car is built.

Congrats dude. Get it to a 1/4 mile track even on the 22's just to see what it will run.

Ringgold, congrats on breaking 7's - that is awesome for full interior and bone stock k.

I don't take the h2b to any 1/8th mile tracks at all; only 1/4's. But on my slips the best it's shown for the1/8th section is a 7.5X at something like 93mph. It was lacking some top end then so it did great in the 1/8th but lacked a little mph in the 1/4, but that was before; little bit different setup since I've changed quite a few things. It was on 22's just like you as well, and in the 1/4 on 22's I had to shift into 5th a few hundred feet before the traps. It's on 24.5's now so I dont' have that issue anymore and I'm able to launch about 1500rpm higher without spinning.

I won't be at the Rock next weekend either, even tho I was hoping to. Scheduling won't allow it, so don't worry about not being able to make it. We'll line up next time. I'm usually at Zmax and Rockingham when possible.

Anywho congrats on a decent pass.

I might, but I doubt I make it to one. If I run on 22" slicks anymore I need to adjust the suspension too. The oil pan on this engine sits low and with those small slicks the dang oil pan drug at the track in a few spots. I didnt care for that at all. had to be careful when pulling back around to the pits. I want a stamped steel pan instead of the cast aluminum one that came on these engines. Just never bought one and swapped it out yet. I will say that I got those 22" slicks to hook pretty well, I do not know how much better I can get the car to 60'.

What kind of rods and pistons are going with? some custom GRP rods?

Sounds like you got some work ahead of you!!! To be completely honest, I want to build a fox body Mustang really bad right now. I have been wanting to do it since I was in high school. Sounds lame to most, but I love those cars, I just cant help it. I have nearly bought one a dozen times it seems. I just know that if and when I got one it would probably get a little serious and I would start to blow a ton of $$$

thanks..........

All I ever really run is 1/8th tracks. I like them, plus they are closer than any of the 1/4 tracks.

Yea, some GRP rods and the RLZ wiseco custom pistons... Im thinking 11.5 compression... I feel ya on the blowing money thing, this will be the last build for me... If I demolish another motor like the last I will not be rebuilding. Little things here and there Im cool with but losing over 5K on a single pass is for the birds...

I have never blown that much on one pass, but I did tear up an engine the other year on my last turbo setup. Some dudes I know had a race lined up for me against a Nova with a mild built 355 and something like a 150 shot. Anyways, it should have been a decent run, but I took my car out the day before the race to make sure everything was working fine. Pulled out the street my parents live on and there is a decent little straight strip. I hit it from 1st gear and basically make a 1/8th mile pull. As soon as I let off I hear a little noise, and then a couple knocks. I coast on down the road and it starts to get worse. I thought I had spun a rod bearing, not the case. I was on the side of the road out in the sticks in the late evening. I had no one to call to come and pull it back to my parents house, and i was not about to pay a ton for a roll back to come and get me and take me 1 mile. So I fired that mule up and drove it right back home knocking. Right when I pulled into their street it lost a cylinder. So I get it in their drive way and pop the hood, looked perfect still, but it was not running perfect. I pull the plugs and all of them looked perfect other than #4, it was mangled and obviously something had been hitting it. So then I pull the head and find a nice little chunk of steel lodged in the cylinder head that I was able to pull out with some channel locks. I have no clue where the metal came from, but it managed to make it past the valves, chew up the piston, crack the cylinder, and chew up the head. Also there was a little knick in one of the blades on the turbo, but nothing serious at all. If it did make it through the turbo I have no clue how it made it through the intercooler because it looked too big to fit through it. Either way, it costed me a nice little chunk and ruined a perfectly good running engine. I ended up trading that B18C block and another that I had to the guy that machined and assembled my shortblock. Those two blocks are now resleeved and are probably sitting in someones race car.
