I got a SOHC ZC I wanna Restamp with a D16A6 anyone have any suggestions? I need to take it in to a state ref cause a cop wanted to be a dick. I already spent a lot of money rebuilding this motor not knowing it was "illegal" and really can't afford to get a D16A6 block. I did some research stamping is the only way.

Isn't the zc the a6 replacement? I just smogged my car, the guy cleaned off the block code to read it and didn't even care.

 

I don't know who the bigger idiot is here, the cop or you for trying to pull some crap like this.. motor is legal for a stock replacement, put your dpfi manifold back on if your car is anything other than an ex/si/hf and take the car to get inspected, they legally can not say anything because jdm motors are still legal for STOCK replacement, but NOT for changeover.

Well My rex is orginally a STD DX and I converted it to SI all i have is a ZC block with a Z6 head. He told me it was illegal because it was JDM, I and I Told him the A6 and ZC are the same exact design. He gave me a fix it ticket but didn't include anything about the motor. Only header, exhaust and Tinted taillights. So I did wonder if the ZC is actually legal and he just wanted to be a dick.

 

To be clear has anyone ever taken in a ZC block and passed through inspection? Or are we assuming it is legal?
It would save me a lot of time and money if it is.

 

You won't pass with a vtec head lol, put your stock **** back on and be done with it.

5/16" H
3/16" W

1.5/16 Letter spacing

put back on your zc head,get a d16a6 intake manifold with all the sensors hooked up correctly and stay obd-0 with a pm6 ecu...i have a 91 civic lx sedan and converted to a zc sohc and its just as stock to a civic ex with a d16a6 motor...no need to put back on a dpfi manifold...!!!

 

i smogged a sohc zc in a 88 dx... with obd0 mpfi, but i think i went to a pretty lenient smog place

I have a 91 Si with a ZC. I justed swapped my intake manifold over and yes it will pass smog.

Same here. No emissions or anything. Just a stupid $12 inspection you need to get once every few years and they only check the DOT stuff like lights, horn, etc. My last Integra had all sorts of **** done to it, including b20b + ys1 + zex dry shot system...passed with no problem.

 

Pretty sure that the law is:

Passenger car's can ONLY have engines from other passenger cars, NOT light trucks/18 wheelers/anything else.

So here it is like this:

Passenger car = Passenger car
Light truck = light truck
18 wheeler = 18 wheeler

so on and so forth.

EDIT: YOU CANNOT HAVE AFTERMARKET ITEMS THOUGH (I.E. HEADERS/INTAKE/EXHAUST) all that jazz

it seems cali smog laws are gay, no smog here in GA at least in my area closer to Atlanta and you have to pass smog

Also, I would take it in with the current engine, SEE if he says it's NOT legal. Then come back and tell us so we can all find out, even though it IS LEGAL. Then that way you don't uselessly stamp it, which is ILLEGAL, then get in trouble (legally) because of a stupid cop for NO reason.

 

Man what a pain in the ***. I'm glad I live in florida, my buddy and I were just talking about this the other day, wed both fail visual inspection before pulling in the lot haha.
