I Can't Drive: A Historical Account of the Failure That is Me, Part Deux
For those who don't remember, here is Part One: https://honda-tech.com/forums/drag-racing-36/i-cant-drive-historical-account-failure-me-2674462/
And now, a continuation.
This past weekend, the second annual Danny Bair Memorial Race was held at Beaver Springs Dragway in Beavertown, PA.
Last year, I drove up with no intention of racing, but this year, I planned on it.
The setup hasn't changed too much, aside from the fact that I switched fuels and added a second pump into the mix from last year, and the car now makes a tick over 500whp @ 16psi on E85.
Also, still same weight, and full tank-o-E85 this time around.
Before I linguistically describe the event, I'll provide you with visuals.

Now, onto the play-by-play. I only made two passes all day, as I was pretty happy after the first pass.
Here's a breakdown of the first.
60ft --- 1.760
330 --- 4.875
1/8th --- 7.335
MPH --- 100.70
1000 --- 9.400
1/4 --- 11.167
MPH --- 127.80
As you'll see from the video, I think I got a bit over-zealous and ended up shifting into third a bit too soon, and ended up having to shift to fifth about 100-feet or so before the end of the line, even with an extended rev limit of 8,800 RPM. Stupid six-speeds.
When I got the slip from the lovely young lady at the booth, I couldn't believe a pass that felt so horrible ended up not so bad after-all.
The second pass was a purely fun heads-up race against my best buddy/co-worker (our transmission specialist, actually), Shaun Quickel ("Honda Bull" here on H-T). Shaun drives a stock-bottom end GSR-swapped EG hatch with about 375whp.
Here's the breakdown:
"D-Rob" -------------- "Honda Bull"
.674 ------- R/T ------- .012
1.780 ------ 60' ------- 1.770
4.975 ------ 330 ------- 4.893
7.478 ------ 1/8 ------- 7.388
99.70 ------ MPH ------- 100.14
9.572 ------ 1000 ------- 9.551
11.368 ----- 1/4 ------- 11.369
125.85 ----- MPH ------ 124.03
Welp, that race was won at the reaction time. LOL. Shaun got me. What can I say?
My other excuses:
- I did a little burnout.
- The car sat on the limiter in first and second for too long, spinning.
- I get nervous when I race Shaun.
- I'm a vagina.
Anywho, once again this year, I still have not acquired enough testicular fortitude to keep my right foot planted on shifts, which is something I probably should do with this turbo.
For those that are wondering why I only picked up 5mph or so from last year's runs at Beaver Springs, here is the explanation: The old timing system was actually incorrect. They redid the entire length of the track with new timing systems, and found the trap speeds to be about 2-3mph higher than they should have been. Many of the regulars at the track have noted a solid 3mph loss from the changeover to the new system.
OK, enough talk.
Here's a video to satiate the media-hungry beast that dwells within.
Enjoy!

Haha. Nice car man. Your 60' isnt that bad, but something else is missing. Do you have a dyno sheet you can post so we can see your curve?
