Default Where to buy synchros???

Can I look to purchase syncros(3rd gear) from anywhere other than the local dealer? 3rd gear is grinding and I'd like to get it fixed. I think I've worn out my welcome for warranty work so I'm going to have it done by a very experienced local trans. shop.

How much should I expect to pay for a 3rd gear synchro?

Thanks.

$80 is less than I thought. My local trans. guy is willing to fix whatever is needed for $200, but I have to pull the trans. which is not that big of a deal.

Try removing all the bolts from the top, and lifting the transmission away from the engine then lowering it to the ground.

That's how I remove my trannies and I also use jackstands, like you.

What do you need jack stands for... it can be done with only a pump jack...

actually, jack stands just get in the way cause you have position and move them several of times...

This is not ment to be a flame post, but when you use 4ton pump jacks, you dont normally worry bout it failing if it is locked into position and the car is stable on it...

I am also stating this for people that can do the tranny by them selves... it is easier with out stands so that you can raise and lower the car depending on what you need to do...

I understand this part, the jackstands can be in the way sometimes when you're trying to maneuver under the car.

I started a thread a few days ago about this too... my 3rd was grinding and I had it replaced under warranty (it was a A$2500/US$1300) job according to the dealer.

Anyway... i picked up the car from the shop 1.5 weeks ago and the problem has returned...l at high revs, when I've done a large number of gear changes (like on a race track ) it starts to grind bigtime.

So new synchro, and still grinds.... so I am not sure what to do next...

We ordered some 1-2 and 3-4 synchro sets today for a 99 si from the honda dealer and the list if over $600 dollars. So shift kindly and use honda mtl or pay the price. If the honda or acura dealer can't fix your trans in 2 days the first time I would contact someone in torrance.

Go back to the garage and ask to see the damaged gearing, then you know if they really replaced it !!
