PIC Apex Coilovers
What's up H-T?
The time has come for me to purchase and install aftermarket coilovers. The car (96 ITR DC2) will be daily driven also being raced auto x once a month. The roads aren't too bad. I live in a road that has a few huge speed bumps. car will be lowered about 1" to 2" maximum...not slammed.
1. Have any of you guys used these coilovers in your ITR?
2. If yes, how do you like the performance?
3. What would you consider suitable spring rates?
Please note that I have done a lot of reading in the suspension forum but haven't found any specific comments towards these coilovers on an ITR. I also know about the Koni/GC combo so please keep this thread strictly on the subject coilovers. I also do not want unconstructive comments from people who know nothing of these coilovers or suspension characteristics.
Thanks in advance H-T.

I have had the PIC Select P3 and R3 coilovers on my R's and I love them. The R3 maybe harsh on the streets but they're not too bad. The Apex are suppose to be a nicer ride on the streets. I've also had the koni/gc, tein ra's, and ksports, and I like these most.
If the car is a daily driver, I'd look into a set of shocks that can be rebuilt (like a Koni). Don't know if the PICs can be or not, but it would be on the top of my list of 'needs'.
And FWIW, Koni/GC are coilovers. Heck, the OEM shock/spring is a coilover. Are you specifically asking about adjustable height and length setups?
Edit: I see they are fixed dampening and only height adjustable. Retail is $880. Probably comparable to a Tein SS setup (which isn't saying much).
So...do you want us to say now or later than a Koni/GC combo will probably blow these out of the water?

so what is your recommendation for koni/gc setup?
i.e. 450/550 ?
And the normal yellows can also be sent back and rebuilt to higher limits, which is always nice should your needs change.

LMAO this is exactly why I didn't want a Koni/GC discussion in my thread. If someone should so happen to search for my title, I am sure they dont want to be stuck with reading the same old things they saw in other posts about Koni/GC. Please keep the Koni/GC out of this thread.
Pennies Hatch, thank you very much for your post.
Tod00, thanks for the advice towards choosing coilovers. I was saying to keep the thread on the coilovers I stated in my title (PIC Apex).

I personally do not like the Koni/GC setup at all. PIC's are great in that price range, and you can rebuild them here as Al and Jim are here in the Chicago area and sponsored our MWHC.
I do not have the PIC Apex, However i have the PIC Selects and I love them. Running 10kf 8kr (just off the shelf rates) Being here in Mid Cali the roads arent horrendous so the ride is very nice, I probably wouldnt recommend them in cities where there are alot of uneven roads though. If you have not ordered them yet i would highly recommend calling/talking to Jim or Al about your driving style and they will get you something that suits your driving style.
Many people with ITR's use the PIC's.. why is that? they are just that good =D
ive had experience with Koni's, Tein, Skunk 2... and so far these are my favorite so far so that tells you something.
hope this helps

It's not the Apex, but I have been running the PIC Select 12/14 combo. I'm very happy with them! It took me 80K miles to finally decide on suspension, so it was a good decision.

Also, I would make dang sure the Apex line can be rebuilt. A lot of companies make a basic/intro line and are what I call "throw-away" coilovers in that they can't be rebuilt (like the higher models can). Use them, then pitch them.
You're probably not going to find out those answers on this forum since no one seems have have experience with this line of coilovers.
And FWIW, I would recommend the Tein N1's. However, I absolutely would not recommend the Tein SS. Just because the same company makes a good coilover does not mean all their coilovers will be as good.
I really want know how PIC compares to spoon n1 showa dampers... I need another set of spoons for my em1 but the price tag.... siiigh.
Might pick up a set of PIC's and report back... hope i am not making the wrong decision

They can be. I recall Jim and Al offering their services if any of their products needed a rebuild.
You should pm them or call them. I had the oppertunity to sit in on their suspension class at Expo 8 IIRC. It was one of the best single classroom sessions I have ever sat in on in regards to car setups. That day they did break down these differences and springs and valving on a chalkboard in very simple terms. It was awesome! I hope to sit in on another one of these sessions someday. Thanks to that class, I chuckle everytime I see "32 levels of adjustability."
I cant recall a single complaint of PIC products, ever. I myself wouldnt hesitate to use their products.

Well looks like I am the only one with PIC APEX on their ITR lol. They ride nice. Little rough for bad roads but you get ues to it.
What do you want to know about them specifically?

I run the Pic Apex P2 on my daily R. I like them, they are firm but not too firm. The car handles better. The only thing I dislike is that they are a little bouncy at times. The only difference in the Pic Selects is their damper adjustability. I would recommend getting them.
Where is the cheapest place to purchase these coilovers online? So far MAPerfmance has them at the lowest price I have found.
Btw, thanks for all the feedback guys.
I dont know about these they seem alright... but with the problems this guy had id prolly go with koni/gc..
