Icon2 A *DIFFERENT* DC2/EK/EG/Del Sol front end conversion thread

First of all, I have no plans on doing a front end conversion. I am however asking questions of those that have done it as my Del Sol has some frame rail damage. I'd like to know how compatible frame rails are and so on between different models.

Also, this is a test of how many people actually read and respond with stupid comments like "don't do it ricer!!!".

Background info for why I'm interested...
My Del Sol is K-series swapped and one thing I hated with my stock passenger frame rail was cutting off the OEM engine mount bracket. It's not required on the EK as the K-series mounts bolt right on to that chassis. Also, the welded on EG engine mount bracket doesn't look as clean as the EK's engine mount.

I'd also like to know if a stock EG/DC2 strut tower will properly integrate with the EK's frame rail as the EG/DC2 upper control arm bolts on differently compared to the EK strut tower. I know the EG/DC2 subframe can be swapped into the EK's so I figure that part should be okay.

Anyway, I'm just looking for people with experience doing the front end conversions to figure out if this frame rail swap will work. Pretty much wondering if all the fenders have the same bolt spacing and if all the frame rails are the same length.

Oh well, I guess I'm going to do more research and look through tons more threads with broken pics.

wait am I reading this right? instead of a cut frame rail mount, you would rather cut and weld different frame rails?

The thing is, the frame rail has a bit of damage anyway. And the other reason I'm considering doing this is because the EK engine bay looks a lot cleaner. But I might be able to clean up the driver side with just the sheet metal above the frame rail. The passenger side would still be an issue.

Also, I'm not changing the appearance of my car. The Del Sol will remain looking like a Del Sol. The only benefit in a front end conversion is for hood clearance but that's only for the EK/DC2 front ends. EG also has hood clearance issues.

Speaking of hoods... I also need to know which hood hinges are compatible with the Del Sol as the hinges themselves are stamped SR2 (Mostly a Del Sol specific stamping) instead of SR3 (EG). I lost my hinges somewhere. I hope I didn't throw them into my scrap metal box.

Yes. People have done more extreme things for aesthetics. Plus, my passenger side rail is already bent. I managed to get my engine mounted but I can tell by my replacement radiator support the rail is off. Plus, when I cut off the B/D bracket, I ended up with a few ugly holes and craters in the frame rail since I couldn't find my spot weld bit. The driver side may be much easier.

It's not some budget build as you may be thinking. It's already 5 lug with RSX-S front brakes and DC2 ITR rears, ITR quick steering rack, EK steering column to use current generation steering wheels, S2000 cluster and seats and more ATM. There's even some CRV and TSX parts.

It just doesnt seem like a safe idea to cut up frame rails and weld new ones on. I know being different is the thing to do but being safe seems more important.

They'd be welded on like factory. Assuming everything fits properly. At the moment, I don't even have a clue if the stock strut towers will seamlessly line up with the EK frame rail. Plus, if I fail, I have a spare Del Sol to swap everything over to.

arent the frame rails from the factory all one piece? so if you are welding back together its not like factory at all. Look man do whatever you want it just doesnt seem worth all the work, but keep us updated if you attempt it.
