Default Synthetic, high milage or normal oil?

i was wondering what kind of oil is good for my car. its an 01 accord with 147k on it. is it a good idea to go synthetic, high milage, or just stick to the normal oil(5w20). I just use penzoil from the local autoshop.

thanks.

Depends on how often you change your oil I suppose.

If you change it every 3k then any oil is fine. However, I change mine every 3k and use a premium filter (Bosch) and Castrol GTX high mileage. But to each his/her own.

I would say 3-4k on normal oil is easily safe...
If you want to do 5k or more then look at synthetic

High mileage would be good if you are getting burnoff or leaking, but if neither is an issue just stick to regular oil..

i wouldnt recommend switching to high milage just because cars these days run on very low clearances(cars these days aren't like the old days anymore).

switching to synthetic would be the better option compared to using regular oil for these simple reasons: heat reduction (lower coefficient of friction compared to regular oils = less heat), greater film strength (reduce chances of metal to metal contact), engine deposite reduction(far superior thermal and oxidative stability), engine performance and gas milage are also improved.

Please search, there are quite a few threads regarding this.

Unless you have a reason to switch oils, there is no need to.
