failing headgasket?
Hey guys I am trying to figure out if my crx is on its last leg or not. Anyways I was driving it back to my parents house tonight and I could smell a faint coolant smell along with my normal exhaust leak smell. The car has a b18b. Anyways made it home and popped the hood to find coolant running down the front corner of the block. It looked to be coming from the small gap were the head meets the block. The car has always had a small miss but it seems to be getting a little bit worse now. So when I get back home on sunday I am going to compression check it and see if any of the cylinders are low. Hopefully not as this is my only car and I can not afford to lose it for a day or two due to college and work. What do you guys think. Anyone had this problem before.
It sounds like your head gasket is leaking, but not quite blown yet. It should be smoking white smoke from the exhaust like chansta said, or blue if the gasket is leaking oil as well. The quicker you fix it, the less likely you are to cause more damage (overheating, warped head, etc..).
yeah looked some more today. Its been leaking oil since I have bought the car back in may. Its definitely leaking coolant from somewhere. Loosing water in the rad. Took a good amount of water today. The car is not smoking at all but is now idling around 200rpm(could be tps or iac). I am probably going to get my eclipse running and park the crx (aka the huge money pit) cause it needs a the whole front suspension to be rebuilt plus the engine needs work and the clutch is starting to slip a little bit. Was hoping to have the car sold in the next two weeks. Guess thats not happening.
Does your cooling system build pressure?
Check your hoses that are around where you saw the 'leak', it could be leaking from a rubber hose and running down the block.
