Hey guys. For some reason everytime I go to top off my radiator the water is brown. And also in my overflow. The water looks muddy, along with my radiator cap. It's like caked on there. Could it be because i only have water in there and no coolant?
I kno this isn't good, but everytime I flush my car and add coolant a hose busts, it has happened 3 times already!! So I want to get that all situated before I waste a jug of coolant again.

Did you check if it might have oil? Thats weird though cuz usually its brown cuz its old coolant and needs replacing. But its all water? hmmm....not too sure on that one but bump for you

 

Yes. Tap water is corrosive. Coolant has additives in to prevent corrosion. You've got a major mess on your hands. water pump is probably bad, heater core is also probably partially clogged and god knows what the coolant passages in the engine look like.

 

You're supposed to add 50% water and 50% coolant, unless you have the premixed stuff already.

 

Right. But it gets expensive when you keep having to buy coolant over and over because a hose busts after I add new coolant. So I just add water till I can fix the leaking hose. But it's a diff one everytime.

And my heater is probably clogged. It doesn't blow out warm air for squat. I flushed the radiator with the car on and heater full blast the other day, for a good 10 minutes.

 

Should I start with flushing the system again and replace the water pump? And add coolant this time ofcourse. Lol
