my vote goes to the Tokico Illumina 5-way adjustables. I have them in my 98 Ej8 paired with Eibach Pro springs and compared to stock shocks, these things are incredible! Best part about them is the adjustable dampening. If you set it to 1, the ride comfort around town is impeccable. Potholes & bumps are no worries. But if you set it to 5 (like I did), man does it make one hell of a difference. Its super stiff and the handling is very responsive. Pair it with great tires and a nice rear sway and you've got yourself a nice setup.
Plus Tokico has incredible customer service too. If you happen to lose the adjusting rods up top ( like I did lol) you can call Tokico Performance Shocks (1-800-548-2549). They will send you 4 new adjusting rods free of charge. They were nice enough to include 4 'Tokico Performance' decals for me. So these shocks gets my vote

apparently you didn't read the statement correctly and probably didn't even notice that those illuminas are for a front pair only...i'd rather run on a set of 4 tokico blues than on a pair of tokico illuminas on the front and stock shocks on the rear
op, dont waste your money on just buying 2 shocks.
Take a look at the srt-t i have seen them for 308
or buying blues. there are no different than your oem shocks, same with gr2s. the illumina is a good shock but more than the op's budget. that only leaves the str.t as a decent 300 dollar choice for all 4
I have my car lowered with eibach springs on str.t shocks.
Handling is better than when I had the eibach shocks it came with and its also a little smoother.
The Konis are probably the best in your price range for performance although if you ask me they are a little more harsh than the "10 percent stiffer than stock" that is claimed.
Depends what you're looking for.

A: safer to drive
B: corners better
C: will transition faster
D: won't kill tires quite as quick due to a decrease in suspension bob
also did koni actually say 10% stiffer than stock? that's unlike them. sounds like a dealer marketing ploy. did you hear that from koni directly?
that's because they are actually a non adjustable sport set near soft. they don't have the mush you were probably use to BUT, getting rid of that mush is why your car is

Anyway maybe it was the gr2's that claimed 10% stiffer than stock or it was the vendor I bought the Koni's from, I cant remember. I just did a search and couldn't find a link to Koni or a vendor claiming that so disregard my previous statement, I may have been mistaken.
Anyhow I came across this discussion where the guy says the gr2's are 10% stiffer and the str.t's are 25-30%. I agree with the 25-30% stiffer. Just for comparison sake my str.t shocks are very comparable to my friend's illumina's set at medium stiffness.

I always thought a stiffer ride would result in tires be worn down faster.
often the opposite is true, here's why
if you have a soft car that blows through the travel when cornering you're not only shifting even more weight to the two outside tires from leaning, your doing so at the peak of the camber curve. this means lota camber and a lota weight all at the same time and with momentum behind it. a stiffer car transfers less weight and has less of a camber gain {usually}
