Help car overheating!!!!
1990 civic Si hatchback
D16a6 block with d16y7 head..
just replaced the whole engine back in october last year
No white smoke coming out of the exhaust
my car overheated, checked under the hood and saw my coolant reservoir bubbling. It looks like the air is being pushed to the reservoir.
Today i flushed my coolant, and put a fresh juice and its still overheating.
I haven't check my thermostat and water pump, i assume they are ok since the engine is rebuild.
i know i need to replace the radiator cap for sure.
Here is my question
Would replacing radiator cap, thermostat do the trick?
Do i have a blown head gasket? if i do i have to replace my water pump too right?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
thanks guys

pop the cap off to see if ur gettn flow at operating temp. if ur not check the thermostat 1st. if thats good then check to see if ur radiator is flowing. if thats good then check the water pump
1st step-Is your car only over heating when it is at idle, or is it while your driving as well? If it only happens when you are at idle check to make sure your Radiator fan is coming on.
2nd step-Let the car warm up and check the upper and lower radiator hose with your hands (carefully). Once warmed up both hoses should be warm, if one is still cold then you need a new thermostat.
3rd step-Check your radiator fluid for oil or gas. Check your oil for anti-freeze. I suggest draining a little out of the drain plug shortly after running the car (watch the anti-freeze might be hot).
If your head gasket is blown you don't necessary have to replace your water pump. You would need to have the block and the head checked for level. You could probably do this on your own with a straight edge and a sharp eye. Inspect your head gasket for damage and be sure to check the corresponding areas on the head and block

It happens when i drive it, fan works on idle.

The top hose is warmer than the bottom hose. Is that thermostat?

Oil is not milky, and i checked the coolant doesnt smell gas or oil at all. Some how the coolant is not warm at all.

It can also be that your thermal fan switch has packed it in in combination with your thermostat. This happened on my 90 HB, the thermostat was stuck half open so I replaced it but was still having an over heating issue. It turned out that the thermal fan swith was toast and the fan was not turning on. However when I tested the fan by jumping it from the battery the fan always worked fine. So if you still have boiling problems replace the thermal fan swith or you will be replacing the head gasket too.
