High pitched noise when car is on
I have a kenwood 4-channel amp that i have hooked up to power my 4 polk ex 3-ways. when i turn the car on, there is a very high pitched noise that gets even more high pitched as the rpm rise. i thought it was just the ground but i used another amp and everything was fine (until i blew out that amp... DAMN
)
but yea, now i'm back to having to use the kenwood but i need to know how to remedy the high pitch noise.
should i try using a different ground location anyways? what else could it be?

your picking up alternator whine.. when the ignition is on ACC or ON but the motor isn't running you don't hear the noise.. but once the engine is started you hear it right?
make sure your grounding point is to a clean/bare metal spot... if its painted sand it down to bare metal or choose another grounding location..
also make sure the power wires are not run w/ the speaker and RCA wires... having quality shielded RCA cables also help.. many people either run the power and speaker wires together in a bundle and get noise.. or have a bad ground... check those two...

thanx for the info, i'll try a different ground tomorrow when it's light out. if i stll get the whine, what else could it be? i'm not worried about the RCA's, and my wires are actually kinda messy and aren't bundled together at all. I hope it's just the ground. thanx again
yeah, Make sure you rca's and power wires are separated on different sides of the car or run rca's down the middle and power down the right side of the car. If you cant get a good ground and all else fails run a ground to the battery, thats what i had to do for my mcintosh amp and it always works...its just a pain in the ***. It seems some amps give more ground noise than others thats just from my experience.
