e-coat ?'s
Does "e-coat" (which came on an after market factory hood) rust? I know it will fade and start to look really bad, but I'm wondering if it will rust on a car that's left outside.
Thanks.

Probably not, but don't try it. If you have a fresh OEM part, just paint it right away and be done with it. If for some reason it has a weak primer on it and it decides to rust you'll have a massive headache dealing with removing the rust once you do decide to paint it. Leave it indoors or just paint it right away.
factory and after market e coats (like all primers ) don't cross link like a clear coat or a single stage. it's meant to be a undercoat thats it. so over time e coat or surfacer in day to day weather will absorb moisture and rust.
if you were to wash a aftermarket hood that in bare black e coat, your wash mit would have little black flakes of paint on your mit. in others words, the mit would be black because the e coat is coming off.
give it a year, the hood will be brown.
