had these trouble codes on a 2003 accord v6(sedan, LX i believe).

the first 2 codes are for the o2 sensor, bank 1 sensor 1. now, exactly which o2 sensor do i replace? i already bought a bosch OEM fit o2 sensor, but it could the pre-cat sensor way in front of the engine just behind the intake manifold, and there's 2 more sensors(driver and passenger side) under the car, before the cat, right? if so, how do i know which one to replace?

and the P0506 is apparently the car idling low, which is true. the idle is rough, and low. so the possible issues are: check intake box, throttle body, idle air control valve? anything else?


any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

 

lookin at the front of the car Bank 1 is the REAR (firewall) and Bank 2 is the FRONT (radiator side)

 

Your V6 has 2 Air Fuel Ratio (A/F) sensors and 2 secondary heated oxygen sensors (HOS).

As ekg16 stated, "lookin at the front of the car Bank 1 is the REAR (firewall)."

The A/F sensors operate over a wide air/fuel range. They are different than the secondary HOS. The connector plugs are different too. Hopefully, the Bosch you already bought is the correct A/F sensor.

For the code P0506, first check for the throttle body bore for dirt or carbon. Clean the throttle body bore. Also, check the air cleaner element for damage. May just be carbon in the throttle body. Other things to check would be A/C system and power steering system.

 

yup, redbull-1, the o2 sensor i bought is the bosch 'wideband a\f sensor'. the connector looks the same as the sensor in the front of the car, and it has 5 wires(gray, black, blue, yellow, & white). i told carpartswholesale.com about the error code, and they told me which one to get. it was $120 there, way cheaper than in any store.

as for P0506, i will check the throttle body bore. what do you mean by air cleaner element? the air filter? because that still looks brand new, no dirt in it whatsoever. what exactly would i check in the a\c system?

i do notice that if when idling, i turn the steering wheel left\right, the idle drops, and comes back up.

It is the one near the firewall, it should be where you can reach it from the top. See image.

Air cleaner same as air filter. Generally, cleaning the throttle body bore fixes code P0506. Start there. The service manual also states to check the A/C and power steering system; however, if you have not problems there, I wouldn't bother.

what do you think the problem is that causes, when idling, the RPM to drop and then go back up, when turning the steering wheel, like a rough idle?

 

A poor idle can accompany DTCs for oxygen sensors. After you replace the sensor, reset the computer, run the idle learn procedure, and drive it to see if the P0506 comes back. If it doesn't, then don't worry about it.

To run the idle learn procedure after resetting the computer, warm up the engine to operating temperature and turn off all accessories (radio, heater blower, lights, etc.). Allow the car to sit and idle undisturbed for 5-10 minutes, and you're done.

 

is there a way to reset the computer, or do i just erase the codes with an actron obd2 scanner?

You can clear the codes with the scanner if you have one, or you can remove the negative battery terminal for several seconds. If you disconnect the battery, you will need to re-enter your radio security code afterwards, so make sure you have it handy.

 

alright, fellas. so the new o2 sensor removed the o2 sensor code, and the check engine light was off for about 3 weeks... but it came back on. this time, for P0506 only, idle control system: rpm lower than expected. so what do i do now?

there's also a horrible squeak coming from one of the pulleys, is the top-most pulley the main pulley, power steering, or what? check out the vid:

For the P0506, have you already cleaned the throttle body bore?

The squeaking may be coming from the drive belt tensioner, which may need replacement.

 

nope, i can't seem to find instructions on how to do it, as i've never had to clean a throttle body bore before.

strangely enough, the CEL went off, but the idle is still rough at times.
