Okay so my wife drove down the street today to the store (first time driving the new 96 civic hatch dx) with the ebrake fully engaged.
She asks "why is it so slow, i floored it and it barely went anywhere"
then she says "and the back end squeeks alot" first thing i thought was ebrake...
So i take the car for a drive seems okay.. then i tried to drive with the ebrake on and it squeeked like hell and really wouldnt GO.
Well now the rear brakes (drum) squeek when I brake hard now..
My question is what else should i look for besides just replacing the brake shoes.
The engine was real hot.. (i didnt check the temp guage) But I popped the hood to check the fluid level and even the hood latch was scorching
My guess is because the engine had to work its *** off just to move..
Please dont turn this into your wifes an idiot.... I would have ____ ___ _____. Kind of thing.. I already flipped out on her enough and I actually feel kinda bad.
But what else should I look for
Thanks in advance

Well it couldn't have been set that hard or it would just drag the rear tires.
With luck, only new shoes, turn the drums, and lube the backing plate contact points (normal drum brake job stuff). Really won't know untill you pull it apart. If there is rear brake carnage, please post pix.

Consider changing the drums completely if you still have the originals...they are pretty cheap. Otherwise, I don't think you have too much damage but check the pistons for leaks- sounds like the shoes were ready to go anyways...

From: TRILLINOIS....WAY downtown, jerky.
I would suggest maybe checking the rear brakes to see if they're glazed or just need cleaning after being dragged. The noise might just go away by itself. Besides that, I would suggest leaving it alone. It was only 3 miles. Don't worry about the car overheating. It didn't. Don't flip out on your wife. They're just brakes. They're like $30. Not worth flipping out. Remember...she knows where you sleep....
My GF breaks all my stuff. It's just how they roll. You should feel bad for flipping out on her.

@.mattyz I knew it would start somewhere...
Thanks everyone for all the responses
i'd recommend scuffing the friction surface of the shoes with some 180 grit paper just to get the glazed surface off, clean em up and adjust them, then go reseat them.
i wouldnt worry about the drums since the heat should have been transferred evenly as the car was rolling, its not like panic stops where you will get hot spots.
also wouldnt be a bad idea to bleed them, or flush the fluid completely. if the pedal still feels great this isnt really needed, but never hurts.
