found these two little boxes in the process of taking my dash out to replace my heater core....

no idea lol. the 2nd one looks kinda like something for a audio/video system

 

possibly some sort of resistor box..

 

I believe the first is the door chime thingy. Other I have no clue. Find out where it went in harness and try to trace the wire down to see if its needed only thing I can suggest.

 

i think one is a blinker relay, im not to sure about the other one

 

i had both unplugged and the door thing still chimed, but the grey one is mounted on the right side of the heater core housing

 

intermittent wiper relay? i'm just taking shots in the dark on this one lol

The first one should say it on it, I just forgot which one it was. there both relays for sure.......

 

if it said what it was, i wouldn't be asking haha

 

the second one, assuming its from the passengers side, is part of the seat-belt buzzer and maybe a couple of other functions like the door/hatch open light on the dash.

 

i ripped both mine out when i did my rhd firewall swap i guess i dont need em

 

NOT intermittent wiper relay. I've seen BOTH on vehicles in the junkyards so I figure its like an appendix. "Nice that you have it, but it does nothing for you."


Should be simple relays for door/hatch like the guy above me said. But it could be anything. Just once youre setting up all the wires again check for what's unplugged and go from there if you want to rehook-up.

 

I was thinking maybe something for the seat belts??? Who knows

yes!

 

The first box is the external dimmer switch found on all 90-91 civics/crxs/etc. The second box is for the door mounted seatbelt.

on 88-89's, the power in/out and pos/neg for the dash lights are built into the switch. on 90-91's the switch is seperate from the resistors. i can't explain it correctly but i know for a fact the black box is for the dimmer switch, as i have converted my 88's dash harness to 90-91 specs so i could run a gsr cluster.

 

and what is the external dimmer switch not to sound dumb. and why does the seat belts need this?

 

Seat belts to work obviously don't need this, but I think it's probably a relay for the buzzer or the buzzer itself, unless its just a light where it's the same thing as buzzer but a relay for the light instead.

 

Wait wait wait... That black box is the dimmer switch control box??????
And it is mounted to the steering column????????
