Default need header and ECU advice....

To start off this is being done to my '98 JDM Type-R motor in my '00 GSR. Since I don't have to deal with smog for a few years, im ready to get some more power out it. Currently I have a garbage 4-1 DC header with a 2'' col. and the stock GSR cat (2'' I believe). The rest of the exhaust is a 2.5'' greddy evo2 system with no silencer in the muffler. I've been looking into getting a new header and adjustable test pipe to get rid of the current kink in the exhaust.

I am looking into a hytech replica 4-2-1 or maybe a RMF replica 4-1. Along with a test pipe. My first question is what would you guys reccomend for the header? As for the brains I am running a USDM type r ecu, but I still have my JDM ecu that came from the same '98 R as my motor. That means I have to get an obd2a to obd2b connector, correct? Also, what O2 sensors does the JDM ecu read? Does it read both (the one on the header and cat) or does it just read the one on the header before the cat? I don't want to run around with a CEL. lol

Thanks

Heresay from me: get the SMSP header + cat combo as they compliment each other.

i dont know enough about ECUs and obd2 and sensors to tell you what to do about sensors.

Found a new TDM products "hytech replica" for less than half of what they cost here on H-T, so im considering that. Plus SMSP is $$$. My car is more for function than having my engine covered in bling. lol.

Anybody know what sensors a '98 JDM R ecu actually uses? Not really much of a power gain with the jdm ecu but I think it only uses the first O2 sensor on the header and not the cat one, but not sure......

Thanks

Get the TDM header. I've ran them on my track cars in the past. Each one I got were great quality. Best bang for the buck!

to answer your quesion as i know how it feels. i have a 2000 gsr aswell with a full itr jdm swap.

the harness jumper u need would be OBD2B to OBD2A. 94-95 is obd1, 96-99 is obd2a, 00-01 is obd2b. that goes for civic aswell.

currently i have a obd2b to obd1 jumper. i really didnt like how the R ran with the stock p73 ecu. almost felt like vtec stuttered lol.

kinda fast car, just GSR shells are too heavy and u would agree with me on that...i also have the real hytech with a 3 inch collector, 2.25 straight pipe (to get back some of the compression back), and a 2.5 full greddy evo2 system. sounds good and aggresive and not so loud.

Thanks for the jumper help. Yes I agree the GSR is heavy. I do enjoy the sunroof and Im quite happy with the blacked out leather interior.

I bought usually bought whatever they had available at the time.

An for ECU, I had 2 ITR swaps in my Civics in the past, I always ran a P28 ecu with Hondata.

You might have better luck in another forum. You technically have a GSR with a hodgepodge of parts on it.

I was waiting for that one "You don't have a type-r!!!" guy to come out. What does my GSR chassis have to do with my questions at all?!? They are all focused around my R motor/ecu...... This is the Type-R forum correct? Its okay though, I was raised in the NorCal honda scene. We don't hate on other people with clean hondas. Plus if it makes you feel better the only parts on my motor that are not 98 spec R is a CAI, and a header. Thats a real "hodgepodge".

Thank you to all the guys that actually helped out with info.

Probably because most people on here drive usdm type r's. 98 ecu's do not have immobilizer, only 00-01 ecu's.

Thats true. I wasn't trying to insult people with that statement btw.

Thanks for the immobilizer info.

95% of us on here own USDM ITRs with USDM ITR parts and ECU's. Truth be told, way more people in the all-motor/hybrid forum will have gone through what you are trying to do.

No matter how you want to cut it, you technically have a hybrid. Not a lot of us on here need to switch from OBD-2a to OBD-2b or need to run a JDM ecu. This is why your question is better off in another place.

I don't know why folks have such difficulty grasping this, then make a post saying "120 views and nobody knows about the JDM ITR ecu?????" .

No, we don't. We don't have any need to.
