VTEC NOT POPPING!??????
10-5 Update: CEL CODES ON PG.2!
Alright fellas, so i recently did an oil change using 10w30 synthetic since my car was almost a quart over. i also replaced the spark plugs while i was at it. however, the car had NGK Iridiums and i went with a cheaper $3 NGK plug shown below...
my question is... does this affect VTEC? or maybe havin too much oil caused my Vtec Solenoid screen to get dirty??? VTEC was popping smoothly before i realized car had a little too much oil.
Plz drop in ur input... thanks.

AND I THREW THESE PLUGS ON SINCE I BOUGHT THEM BEFORE CHECKING WHAT WAS THERE BEFORE. BUT DOES THE TYPE OF NGK SPARK PLUG MAKE A DIFFERENCE??
i love it when people say vtec cracks or pops. VTEC does not equal RICE KRISPIES
any cel? like fv8s said check the solenoid screen, if its clear then check to see if your getting power to the solenoid
i doubt your plugs caused a big change, switch back and see if theres a difference although if vtec isnt working power should die off pretty quickly after 5500

Plugs don't make a difference in VTEC engagement. What type of car/engine is this?
**VTEC need the all following things to work:
VSS reading >12mph, CTS reading operating temp, oil pressure, correct wiring and hardware, rpm signal at or above trigger point, TPS reading at or above trigger point, MAP signal that makes sense.
**with a virgin Honda ecu and without any vtec controllers or bypasses
**VTEC need the all following things to work:
VSS reading >12mph, CTS reading operating temp, oil pressure, correct wiring and hardware, rpm signal at or above trigger point, TPS reading at or above trigger point, MAP signal that makes sense.

thanks everyone..
also, the car came with some red ebay spark plug wires so im definately buying some blue NGK's or OEM ones.. can this be it too?

could you have disconnected the green plug on the solenoid by accident when you did the plugs?
spark plugs do not make any sort of difference in VTEC engagement.
what is your current oil level?
also, VTEC is not a noisemaker, so who cares if it engages quietly or loudly...

I think i'm just going to state the obvious: You said that Vtec was engaging right? You did a few things and now its running rich, throwing a light, and not crossing over? Something just doesn't add up. So here comes the obveious, why dont you back track with every action you took. Chances are you accidently unplugged a sensor or pulled to hard on some wiring with a tool or and arm inadvertently. Personally, I wouldnt have even started this thread until I knew why it was throwing a code....
Not that it's your problem, but the 5553/BKR6ES-11 plugs are the NGK Standard Copper plugs. Stock for a '99-'00 Si B16A2 would be the 3141/PFR6L-13 NGK Laser Series (platinum/iridium core).
Check that code before you start theorizing what the problem might be though.

$12 a plug FML!
o well, gotta pay to play

Did you ever find out what the CEL was on for? The copper plugs will work pretty much just the same...they just won't last as long. You can find the OEM platinum plugs on www.sparkplugs.com for relatively cheap.
okay so i havent had a chance to scan the CEL codes but i did notice something strange over the weekend.
when the car was hitting vtec my mph wasnt working but rpm's were.
after the oil change n new spark plugs i drove the car just fine but when i pulled into a shopping center i bottomed out a bit and my ECU fuse under the hood popped.. so i pulled out the horn fuse and put it in the fi/e slot and car started up n the mph started working again. however, after mph were reading again.. i get a call from my friend saying my brake lights dont work..
so wuts goin on here? ive had the car for 2 months n i feel like stripping it completely and rewiring everything
