question about stripping paint from wheels?
i have a set of mugen cf-48 wheels that i got from a buddy of mine. 2 of them have about 3 layers of paint on them. i took them to my buddys shop and threw them into the sand blaster, bought some glass bead stuff and went to work on them.
after about 45 min on each wheel and his air compressor about to blow from running non stop, it only took off 2 layers. the bottom layer seems to be a powder coated paint. the blaster would not even dent this ****. ive had aircraft slathered on it for the past 2 hours with only some of it coming off. i dont want to spend the money on having a shop with a more powerful machine blast them i just want to do it myself. does anybody know of a better paint stripper than aircraft? these wheels are starting to **** me off!

Wow I have a similar situation, but not as bad. I bought some cf-48s this weekend. They look like they were painted silver, white and now black. Cleaning see up will take some dedication. Good luck man!
ive been busting my *** and its prolly gonna take ten apps of aircraft! im on my 3rd application of aircraft as i type and its strating to come off. im gonna let it simmer for a little while and then take them to my parents house and try the power wash on them. i will post my results.
use the aircraft stripper. it will come right off and then hit it with 1500 grit paper and then some metal polish. once my cf48's are stripped i plan on using 600 than 1000 than 1500 then polish for the lip. everyone in the paint section is telling me to just use the aircraft. it shouldnt take away the shine tho.
it shouldnt from what everyone in the paint section is telling me is that you wait till it blisters (about 20-30 min) and then spray it off with a hose and then apply again as nessecary.

i just got my cf48's back from the sandblaster and they are pitted to hell! i started trying to polish the lip by using 220grit wet and it doesnt seem to be cutting through all the pitting. i was wondering if 100 grit is too much. if it will be hard to polish it out. i have like 30 sheets of 100 and do not want to go buy 150 if i dont have to. i have alot of 100, 600, 1000, and 1500.
Something like 100 is going to leave you with deep scratches to try and sand out with lighter paper.
If you are going to just polish the lip see about having it machined.

even if i use 100 cant i just sand it out with a higher grit. i mean 220 is taking most of that pitting out but not all of it. so i dont see why it cant take out 100 grit scratches
