Hello guys, i have a 1992 Civic Sedan Lx equipped with a D15B7 engine. My stock horsepower is 102. I plan to really clean up the engine and remove all the buildup to hopefully get all its 102 stock horsepower back from 18 years of use. The mileage is pretty low for its year, and the engine runs very very smooth (well maintained), thats why im going to keep the engine. I want to add performance parts while still keeping the stock head (no minime swap), and engine, while still keeping it all motor. I dont want to go all out but im trying to past the 120hp mark. Can anyone estimate how much horsepower the following would add?

Cold air intake
4-2-1 Headers
Test Pipe (maybe)
2.5" Full catback, with a vibrant performance muffler
Dyno tuned, preprogrammed ecu (maybe)

And does anyone know ways to free up hidden horsepower in older engines like mine?

Everyone is just going to tell you that bolt-ons would be a waste of money unless you go turbo single cam...other than that, go b-series.

 

^ this. Out of all the stuff you just mentioned you *might* see a 10hp gain. If its a 5 speed you'll see a much bigger gain from swapping out the stock transmission to one from an EX/Si, obviously its not going to make any more power, but it will let accelerate quicker due to its lower and shorter gearing.

 

depends how much $ you have. a low miles k24a2 sure has enough go power....

 

Can you guys stop telling me to do the swap, i just want to know how much horsepower each might be able to add, and any other things that can help release the hidden horsepower.

 

Don't waste your money. I had all the standard bolt-ons and really didn't notice much, if any, so I went turbo. Not that I'm telling you to go for boost but I went the route you did and wound up doing just that.

 

Your gonna make verry little horse power even if you had all of thoes mods, that engine was not built to make power it was made for gas mileage. I would save the money your gonna use for these mods and buy yourself a b18 swap or at least a single cam vtec. everyone is telling you to swap because its going to be the best thing for you to do. D15B7 is not a good platform for making power. You would make more power by throwing a vtec head on it enstead of wasting your money on thoes mods.

 

Everyone is telling you to swap because theres not really anything you can do as far as bolt ons go. Also, there is no "hidden horsepower" If you had a cold air intake (not a short ram) a header, exhaust and had it dyno tuned you might make 10hp. If you pulled the engine apart and threw in some high compression PM7/P29 ZC pistons and did all of the above you'd make a bit more power, but its going to cost.

 

pm7/p29's dont do jack in a d15 the bump comp like .2 cause they sit almost 2mm in the hole. dont listen to the d haters im building as we speak a d15b2 which is the same as a b7, its just a stock rebuilt bottom end, new rings, bearings and gaskets with arp rod bolts, i milled the head .060 and diy ported it with isky springs arp studs and a crane 12 cam, it has a modded dc header and an edlebrock intake mani and cai im shooting for at least 140 to the ground its 11.7:1 comp

Well, i came to my senses, and i wondered why work on my 4 door with a stock 102hp engine and max out at around 120-125, why not save up for an ej1 civic ex (i love the coupes, not into sedans) that comes with a D16Z6 engine that baselines at 125hp, and can probably max out around 150hp. Thanks guys, so i guess ill go that route, so what would be nice on a D16Z6, while still keeping it all motor?

 

Mini-Me turbo ftw. You will be the happiest going turbo, NA d-series arent the best to build on a budget, just my .02

 

Dude, if you're not feeling the sedan look, take a look at Franklin Perez's (FranklinHID on here) build of his eg9. That thing is my inspiration. I have a d16z6 with cold air intake, flowmaster exhaust, and stock header. Blech! Car sounds good and runs great and makes decent power for something with smaller displacement than the majority of coke bottles...

 

Brehhh, just save your lunch money and buy a gsr swap for the car.
dont mod the motor, not even a intake. save your money and swap it.
its worth it. and its easy todo a swap just follow a diy thats how i learned.
