Default Polished or Painted Headers

Can i polish or paint some used headers im taking of a buddy car? I just want the engigne to look good. Dress it up a bit...Can this be done? If so, what do i need?

You can do both, i would suggest that you polish it though.

For paint, you must use high temperature paint. Unless of course you want a fire underneath your hood

Compound for polishing, metal specifics will do better than ones for just paint. You can wet sand the pipes with 600, or 1000 grit to create a smooth surface, and then do the hard work of polishing it by hand or using something to help you buff it.

no, i didn't mention any brand, because there are compounds for polishing up paint and others for metal.

First things first, what type of steel are they made of?
Mild steel - Would be better off painting or preferably jet/ceramic coating.
Stainless steel - Would be better off polishing.
Stock cast iron - Wouldn't waste time on them other than spraying with some high temp paint and hope it lasts.

Buy some stainless steel polish and polish it up. Make sure to wear gloves while you polish it, also when you install it. If not make sure to clean any finger prints off before you start your engine. If you leave any oily finger prints on the freshly polished stainless they will turn into discoloured print marks when you put heat through the header.
