I wanted to get a suspension for my 99 DX Coupe, it will be my DD, just wanted to get some ideas on a budget suspension. I would like to lower only 1 or 1 1/2 inches because winters here are pretty bad. What would be a cheap suspension compared to an average one.

There are so many different types, lowering springs, Coilovers etc etc, do not know what I should do. Thank you for the input.

Before knowing your budget I'd suggest KYB GR-2 (silvers) shocks paired with Tein S-Tech springs. You could probably get the shocks and springs for around $400.00-$450.00 or so, and the drop is about 1.5'' and they ride amazingly smooth. I've owned that exact set-up on a former daily driver of mine.

 

Tein s.techs on stock shocks would be fine. That's about as cheap as it gets.

Or KYB AGX + H&R sport or Neuspeed sport or something similar with medium spring rates.

For higher spring rates you'll need a koni+GC ($850 new with 1st owner lifetime warranty) or tokico + spring of choice for about $750 new. I believe tokico has a more flexible warranty.

For cheap coilover systems I'd get the Progress CS-II. Reputable American company with great customer service, track/road race history. Bisimoto uses their products.

Short shock body + custom damping for the rates you order.

They offer rates in 350-250 / 350-350 and offer more serious track and drag setups.

TO replace a shock beyond their 1 year warranty is like $70. And you can order a 2nd set of alternative rate springs for track day for less than $100.

 

Pretty much your spot on. 400$-500$, I want something with a drop as well as a smooth ride. I'll look into the KYB GR-2. I want to buy all the parts I need before selling my VW. Then sell my VW and buy the Civic. Any other suspension setups for about 400$?

 

Were would I be able to purchase these Progress CS-II. and Tein S.Techs seem like a good idea.

What about LCA's what do these do for the car?

Please do not take this the wrong way.

I would bet money, literally, that not only is the ride quality superior (hard to prove) on the KYB GR-2/Tein S-Tech combo, but it will also last much longer (not hard to prove ) than the Skunk 2 shocks/springs.

Skunk2 is a decent company and all, but they don't have the same level of quality in their shocks/springs as KYB and Tein.

Also quoting "your price" because you "know a guy" isn't exactly helpful unless you can hook him up with that same price, right?

 

For around $400, I would agree that S techs and GR-2s is a good bet. I've also heard Koni reds and eibach sportlines is a good combo for around $500, that's probably going to be a bit more aggressive, s techs are pretty soft.

 

I've used the Eibach sports lines on a couple of cars, its a very good setup, ride quality is great

 

I'm using kyb agx and some eibach sportlines. and i love my setup. only thing is they didn't need 1 and 3.

4 is track style its rough and tight and allows for small turns. i can turn around in a one lane road without going off. 2 is comfy cloud riding smooth as ice.

sportlines also give it a pretty good drop. 1.5-2.3 in. mine leveled out at about 1.8ish.

but my setup costs closer to 6-700. still if you have some extra dough lyin around any of these listed above me are good setups and you'll enjoy em.

 

Koni Str-t and eibach,tein, H&R or some sort of spring.

At tire rack the gr2 is $248 while the Koni is $308

I would much much rahter have the Koni shock.

have s-techs on my srt an they are a rough ride.

you feel everything in the road. i think ill go with the koni/tein set up though...

 

Okay so the majority for shocks are either KYB GR-2 or the Koni Srt-T Street strut. The Koni are better but they are a bit more expensive. From my understanding, going to look at Tirerack.com. They ship to Canada as well.

As for Springs, Sportline Eibach or H&R, Tien S-Tech. I think I am understanding this better now.

i dont take it the wrong way, its a matter on whence this company builds their products for, plan an simple they build race cars so yeah if you wanna cadi then go with the kyb's and tein's, and i prolly could hook the guy up with no prob and ive had my shocks and springs for a long time now and plan to keep them much longer

 

im dropped on skunk2 springs and shocks. Its daily driven and I find the ride quality to be pretty good and they weren't too expensive. If I hadn't bought the skunk2s id probably buy the kybs though

 

You clearly haven't ridden on "good" suspension.

My brother had skunk2's on his integra before.

He later got Tein SS. Night and day difference.

 

i got kyb gr2 with egay sleeves. Isnt that horrible and only costed me like 230 everything said and done. Im waiting for raceland to remanufacture full coilover kits for ek's they should be out jan/feb for like 300 bucks.

 

Yeah because I dont want this SLAMMED since it will be winter driven as well as having passagers in the car, I just want a little drop with better handling. KYB and Tein seem the way to go.

 

Would someone explain to me what Coilovers are? Sorry seems like a amateur question.

 

full coilovers are a shock/spring combo designed for one another and are sold in tandem typically.

The "coilover" part essentially described a spring/coil with a "sleeve" which has threading and the capability to adjust ride height.

 

if you only want a little drop get prolines not sportlines if you go eibach.

 

Save up for some Function & Form Coilovers...for the price they are ridiculously well made and work extremely well.
