Default Gauges - what range & elec or mech?

Yes, I have searched but no answer and all thread are mainly in 2002-2007, nothing current.

For typical 400whp build honda motor.
My concern is accuracy & ease of readability.
It to me it doesn't make sense to go with a gauge that has HUGE range when you only use 1/4 of it. I'd rather have a MILD range where I can see more precise number and use 1/2 of it.

For EGT, what range to go with & what which is better electrical or mechanical?
1200c = 2192f
1600c = 2912f
2000c = 3632f

For oil pressure, up to how much psi & what which is better electrical or mechanical?
0psi to 100psi
20psi to 150psi
20psi to 200psi

For oil & water temp, what range to go with & what which is better electrical or mechanical?
100f to 250f
140f to 280f
140f to 300f

* Autometer offers some gauges that are "liquid filled" is that only so that the gauge needle doesn't bounce as much?

I don't think it's entirely a matter of what is better but what is better for YOU?

Mech will give you a more accurate reading then electric, I BELIEVE because whatever your reading goes straight to the gauge. However the downfall of mech gauges is that the stock nylon hoses they give you are crap. I recommend SS lines for anything liquid, as ive had an oil pressure nylon hose blow.

Oil pressure you wont really see over 100psi depending on your motor, water temp you wont see over 250f same with oil, and sorry i dont have an answer for your EGT as every motor is different, cooler is better though.

Pass that its all on you, what i told you was what i do and or run on my car.

Edit: Sorry I said what I run on my car meaning the temp, pressure, and degrees. I run electric gauges.

my responses in bold. i never understood the mech is better arguement. just think about all the sensors on your car that are electronic. map, tps, water, oil, iacv, basically everything.

1200c, you will probably be in the 1200-1400f range most of the time. im pretty sure they dont make mechanical egt gauges. im not sure how you would route hot exhaust into your engine bay. most egt gauges use a pyrometer in the exhaust mani to measure temp

For oil pressure, up to how much psi & what which is better electrical or mechanical?
0psi to 100psi
20psi to 150psi
20psi to 200psi
0-100 electric. i dont think you should run pressurized oil into the cabin

100f to 250f
140f to 280f
140f to 300f
100-250, again just use an electric gauge

all liquid filled gauges are going to be mechanical. the liquid helps the gauge from bouncing but also prevents the gauge from failing from vibration when the gauge is mounted directly to say a fuel rail, nitrous system, etc.

Good advice. Considering aluminum melts at 1220f and iron melts at 2795f, I don't think your going to see 3632f lol

I concur with dpetro1. I don't like the idea of running tubes of gas/oil or other things to my cabin. I would rather run an electric sensor and wires to my meter. I would choose the same ranges as well.
Good luck with choosing quality gauges for your application.

with electrical oil pressure gauges, has anyone had issues with oil pressure sensor going out & needing to replaced?

I have never had it happen personally, but they are rather cheap, $25. So if it does it is not to bad.

i had an autometer oil pressure sender (#2246) mounted directly to an oil sandwich fail. even though the directions specifically say to remote mount it, so not really autometer's fault. also had a remote mount defi sender for 3 years with no issues

Buy a Neptune Tuner View/ I had a autometer Temp and it never read right. Tuner View reads what computer reads. The amount of things it reads for $150 is amazing. It Reads boost, intake temp, water temp, rpm, and has a recall feature. I think with the right sender it can read oil pressure and hooked up with wide band can read a/r.

read your question...

go for electrical...

im using DEFI BF series electrical boost,fuel press and oil press, will add egt or oil temp in a month or so...

If your finances can afford it. The electrical gauges that can be daisy chained to a datalogger or at least put out a O to 5 volt linear signal. Can make for some really good tuning later. IE: plx, innovate, The tunerview is what i use and it can allow up to 3 maybe 4 extra parameters. Takes up very little space in car. GL

ive always preferred electric gauges. ive used mechanical and it can turn into a mess, especially with the oil line

boost is the one thing i run mechanically. much cheaper and saves on some wiring.

I have found my laptop to be the best gauge.

Psi/vac
Oil pressure
fuel pressure
ect
iat
a/f + datalog all of them.

Not a single gauge in the car.

for oil DEFINITELY go with the 0-100psi. you want to know how low your oil pressure is getting and i my car with a new gsr oil pump never sees over 80psi.

as far as temp, id go with 100-250. and you should never see anything above 250 anyways.
