99 CRV Trouble Starting + Overheating
Hi! I'm having a few issues with my 99 CRV - which may be totally unrelated to one another.
I recently took my car in to have the AC looked at because it did not feel particularly cold. It is clearly not just on fan with hot air blowing - the air is cool, just not as cold as you would expect it to be. The mechanic recharged the AC but it hasn't seemed to make a difference.
Just the other day, I started the car and the engine turned over - briefly, and then stopped. This happened two times in a row. The third time I pushed the gas pedal down while turning the ignition and it started and stayed running. My mechanic says that it is behaving like a car that is not getting enough fuel but hasn't yet determined what the problem is. He also discovered a new issue - the car apparently overheats when the AC is not on. I wasn't aware of this because I live in Hawaii and always have the AC on when I drive. I believe there are two fans - one linked to the AC and one radiator fan. Maybe my radiator fan needs replacing?
Thanks for the help! I love my car and want to see it come home soon.
** Update: Thermostat is being replaced - once it's been changed we'll see if the other problems still exist.
