stripped header bolts help

Default stripped header bolts help

k so whoever had the car before me stripped out 2 of the holes where the bolts go to bolt the header on, they tighten very little then spin, u cant pull them outby hand, i was wondering if i can use studs and jb weld them, in if that will work im afraid to use a kit where u drill then tap ay help is appreciated

you can't pull them out? or you can pull them out?

Retap the holes with a tap and dye set and get bigger bolts to accommodate the new threads

it's really not that hard just make sure it's level dude ... don't jbweld it, it won't hold up with the extreme temperatures.

The bolts/nuts are supposed to be torque to 23ftlbs if you can't torque them to that then you need to invest in the tap in dye set, unless you rather have an exhaust leak.

how hard are helicoilsor time serts i dont want to change the size of the bolt cause theni have to drill out my turbo mani to fit them

Re-tap the threads in the same thread pitch, its not overly complicated. Sometimes the biggest task is trying to find a way to spin the tap, as the handles in the kits wont work on tight spaces. Just make sure to go slow and use WD40 or old engine oil for lubrication, as cast aluminum is easy to strip or overly deform.

You might just end up having to drill and re-tap for a bigger stud/bolt however, worst case.

yeah i doubt just tapping it will work, i really dont want to go a bigger size, might have to have someone helicoil it does it cost much to get done

anyone heard of the thermosteel epoxy says made for high temps fixs exhausts and all
