Default 00 si bogging issue after cleaning engine bay

The other day my friend cleaned my enging bay, after i drove it out of the bay and everything seemed fine. Later on i drove it again but a few minutes later it started to bog and the idle it was weird and acting up. So i pulled over and just let it sit for about 30 min. I turned it on everything was fine then on my way to my friends house it started to bog again and as i hit the gas it would die out and then the enginge light would turn on and off and then stay on and it would repeat this process. I got to my friends house and we took the distributor cap off and let it dry out and removed the plugs and checked the seal everything seemed fine. We noticed that the bottom bolt for the distributor was broken inside it itself. So there is a little play in the bottom cap. I let it sit out and dry for the night and the next good part of the day then we put the cap and plugs back in and we started it was fine no check engine light or anything i drove it and it for some reason it still bogged a little. And prior to this a, week before i noticed it bogged out a little, and there was no water contact with it... So i have no idea why it still boggs out a little any suggestions? Please help.

as soon as you get that CEL again. check it and see what it is.
unplug the important sensors like map, tps, iacv, tranny vss. and use a n air can and make sure all those plugs are dry on teh inside. they dont dry easy when enclosed.

you probably still have water in the distributor. same thing happened to me and i freaked out. i ended up aiming a hair dryer at the distributor with the cap off for about 30 minutes. that fixed my issue.

ok ill try that but even when there was no water contact with it, it kind of bogged a little bit for a couple seconds, and do you think without that bottom bolt holding in the distributor tight, will cause any of this?

Install a new distributor bolt and check the inside of the distributor for water. Does the CEL still turn on?

If you have two of the three distributor bolts (that hold the distributor to the cylinder head) tight then no that would not cause any bogging/hesitation. I have seen a B series with only one distributor bolt in place and it ran fine. I don't recommend it, but it's possible. some people do this because they're too lazy to get the harder to reach ones in place.

Now if one of the distributor CAP bolts is broken off then yes that very well could cause some bogging/hesitation.

The EXACT same thing happened to me this past weekend. However, when I removed the plug wires the #2 plug was completely filled with water. I sucked the water out and let everything dry a bit longer. Still the same problem so I replaced the plugs and wires and the problem went away. Been running great ever since.

I'm having the same issue but I did not clean the bay or drive in water. No CEL just a bog in low rpm's. I have a B20V in a EK hatch. It came out of my EJ not having this problem could it be a fuel issue?

Sometimes that CEL will get stored. You can get it checked for free at Autozone as long as it's OBDI ('96+).

If you disconnect your battery the code will clear though, so try to check before you do that.
