So i have had my gsr for a year and a half.I have seen alot of post of snapping timing belt's and i start to worry.First when i got the gsr it had a brand new head from acura.So it hought the belt would be new guess not.The teeth in the belt are all fine they still are rough inside but the top of the belt look's old and worn out.The tension is fine so how else can i tell if i need a new one?

 

If im not mistaken thats how all timing belts look, they look worn out. If you have a timing belt that looks glazed than its time to change it unless you put belt conditioner but other than that if your timing belt teeth are good and no glazing and no cracks you should be good. I work at an auto parts store and trust me all of our timing belts look like they were manufactured ten years ago lol

In many cases, you can't tell from looking at it or feeling it. If it hasn't been changed in the recommended mileage OR time interval, or if you don't know whether or not it's been changed in that interval, just change it. The recommended interval for changing it is either 90K miles or 6 years, whichever comes first, or 105K miles or 7 years, whichever comes first. If you have an Integra on which it has never been changed, it's overdue. DO IT. If your timing belt breaks, you're looking at a very, very expensive repair (that may include rebuilding/replacing the engine).

Most people replace the water pump at the same time as the timing belt, because it's all the same labor to get to the water pump. If you've never replaced the cooling system hoses, it's a good time to do that as well, as a good preventive measure so you don't get a blown hose out on the road somewhere. (It saves coolant and labor by doing it at the same time as the water pump.) At least replace the two big coolant hoses at a minimum.

 

Ok thanks yea one of my coolant hoses nad a small bust on it.SO i cut it and extended it to fit.Im going to for sure by some new one's now.The teg has taken me to cali and nm twice i dont drive it a whole lot but i was thinking it is time to take care of her.Idk when the belt was changed but i will look into it.Should i buy a new water pump or a referbished one?

 

Belt, new water pump, and probably tensioner, all OEM.

 

Oem cost alot of cash is aftermarket somthing i want to avoid i found the water pump timing belt and tensioner on ebay for 70 bucks shipped.

 

I use plenty of aftermarket, but not for timing belt and waterpump. Guess you can get other opinions here.

 

Yea those are pretty major part's to go cheap on.My car never flux in temp and alway's stays one below middle of the temp gauge.

 

I wouldn't go aftermarket either, but that's up to you. I'm sure you're aware you can get 25 percent off OEM parts at dealers like Delray Acura and others.

 

I would go OEM. Those are critical parts to your engine. I run The OEM water pump, timing belt, and tensioner. yeah, I paid $300+ for all of it, but I think its worth it.
