Default CA residents/DMV experts HELP!!

Cliff notes version-

Found a cheap *** CRX Si
Owner drove it from oregon and it is not registered here
Hasnt been registered in Oregon for 8 years

What am I looking at as far as hassles at the DMV? I know ill have to pay the smog fee of around $300, but how about backfees for the 8 years of missing registration?

Any help is appreciated!

It's difficult bringing a car to California, period. I dont know what kind of hassles to expect, but I know people who gave up trying to bring NEW cars to CA.

Good luck. Give your local office a call and ask if you should even bother trying..

First of all, I dont think you'll be responsible for back registration. The same principle if the car had tickets prior to your purchase, you are not liable. Only hassle, is you need to take your car to a local Calif. state referree station to get inspected. The fee is $40 and smog check is included, you get 2 tries. The next step is going to the DMV and getting it registered. Here's a site for the DMV for more info... http://www.dmv.ca.gov/ Good luck

hey guys thanks for all the advice...youre right, i spoke with DMV and back fees will not apply to me at all. I am responsible for the following:

VLF fee of 2% of the value of the vehicle.
Registration (current)
a DMV smog fee check of $50
a smog check from a certified center (gas station, etc...)

So im probably looking at somewhere around 200 total to get this thing registered.

Thanks!
