Default Building my own B bomber intake manifold

Since i have been out of the game for a long time now i figured i would try out NA. I built a 2.0 liter setup. It made 225whp choking for air over 7500 RPM.

I had a bunk tri-Y header and a non ported ITR intake. Now i replaced the header with a Spark and i want to hit my 240whp goal.

I seen/saw all these intake threads and testings....so i decided to make my own intake with the help of Mikey from Profunction. I wanted to make something simple but yet affective.

I placed an order and received all my parts today to start this sucker. I am working on my CAD drawing of this manifold tomorrow at work and i will update this thread as i build and then the final dyno test. I really made this thread for people to chime in with ideas and thoughts that maybe i have over looked. Enjoy

Here are the photos of my bling.

Here is my MSpaint(yes i used paint) for my first thought months ago when i got this idea.

I still laugh at the shittyness of my drawing, but you get the idea.

Are you planning on running an IACV?

yep, got that figured out already. Going to make a 1/2 thick alum flange that i can bolt to the IACV and run have two barbed fittings off it.. one goes to the intake manifold and the other goes before TB.

Hi Dad!,

This week i'll be able to test the theory of adjustable runner length on Kinsler's when i put it head to head against the CNC'd ITR mani. I want to see what kind of effective length on the ITB(55mm) will do the job. Once we find the sweet spot, im going to see what the length is against the ITR runners.

Hopefully all of these tests of existing manifolds will help you develop one bad *** manifold!!!

very nice!

One of the engineers is taking my parts today and starting my drawing. I hope to have something from him when i get back from Cali next week.

would be interested to know more about how you are calculating the optimal plenum volume, runner length and "plenum angle"? looks awesome though!

how high is your safe limit on the rpms?
i would def say about 1" shorter that a type r manifold from tip of the v-stack the the flange. a nice 74mm t/b and you should be good.
i would worry about harmonic waves inside the plenum........may make you power band choppy, peaky etc..
im def in for results of mikespecs test.
good luck and # for both of you.

by the way what size runners are you using?

I am honestly not 100% sure yet. I am just going to look at all these intake tests and take the best from each manifold and put it into one. If it doesn't work, then i fail.. I bet someone could still use it on a boosted car then. haha

9-9500rpm
The motor is pretty much bullet proof. I have a 70mm TB and i don't really feel like buying another one so i will see how this one works.

Runner is 2.131"x 1.256" oval

Here is the car it is going on...

Hey
If you dont mind posting the specs of youre engine. I read trough youre post and you said the ITR IM was choking the engine up. Im building a 84.5x89 b20v with roughly 13-1/2:1 CR and shoting for 230whp on e85. Im shure it will choke the engine. I already have a ITR IM and a 70mm TB. Would selling the IM and investing into another one be a good idea. Wich would you suggest.
Thanks

85x89 11.5:1 comp
Portflow worked head, pro 2's

the ITR intake wasn't the main part of my problem. My header sucked which choked me out.

Here is a drawing we did today. Flange should be done tomorrow.

Kudos for designing and building your own intake, but from your sketches it looks like you are going to end up with something almost identical to the new Endyn aluminum intakes which they flow test anyways. How do you plan to make your's better?

i don't plan on making mine better. I seen something i wanted to make so i am doing it.

Plus it will most likely cost half. I can careless if it doesn't work as well either. It is just something i have always wanted to make since i built this car. Hence i had that intake flange laying around for 2 years now.

Oh damn then ima have some major issues with it since my head is fully PnP by alaniz and im debating on running either S2 tunner 2s or 3s. I guess i will sell it and invest money into that edelbrock one or how ever you call it. I get confused beetween them so dont flame. I will break the engine on the regula triy replicas. Then for the heck of it get some big tube tri-y's and se what hp/tq gains it will net me. Im piking up the small tube tri-ys today. Traded a ls crank and rods for it . What headers were you running that it choked it up?
Thanks
