leakdown test..burning oil still

Default leakdown test..burning oil still

forge wiseco pistons 85mm
alright I did a leak down test...still burning oil
engine was hot compressor psi the leak down was 40-60...
cylinder
1 12% air from dip stick and oil cap
2 12% air from dip stick and oil cap
3 12% air from dip stick and oil cap
4 12% air from dip stick and oil cap
what you think...

a leakdown test won't show bad oil control rings or valve seals.

Some will tell you thats "too high", I wouldn't go tearing an engine down for 12% leakage by any means. I think thats pretty good. As mentioned though it won't show you bad oil control rings or stem seals.

I would imagine so. To what extent I would say would depend on the amount of oil you are consuming

i wouldnt get worried over 12%. once i had a motor that had 80% in the #2 cylinder. it made 350hp and ran for 18k miles and well over 30 track passes.

oil cap and dipstick should indicate through the rings to the crankcase.


just to clarify, your compression check on the motor was 40-60 psi?

oh sorry about that..that was the psi I used for the leak down test
I'm going to do a second test to verify these numbers
